http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...1#post76819851This is from when he sold it, the PO didn't really do anything to her, I've so far installed coilovers, poly bushings front and rear,HD Meyle strut bushings, new meyle control arms, tie rods inner and outer, ball joints, wheel bearings, new air filters,Nology coil, installing an oil cooler ATM and a TT block off plate. I got a Moroso V/C at the powder coater too don't know if I'm gonna run it except for a special occasion or not yet, the South African one on her now is sweet. I have smoked Euro tails for her and some Jetta pig Tails to convert them. I installed the mintiest set of Recaro trophy's I've ever seen, some black leather door cards. Took out the Happiches completely and cleaned and buffed the jam and installed new seals. I'm currently routing the p/s headlight harness in the rain tray for now, next year she gets cleaned and shaved and the rain tray comes out. I put some OMP bars I imported from the UK front and rear with the Super Sport coilovers. There was some damage around the door handles from would be thieves so I put some Armor door plates until the bodywork and bay is done. I have some 15"x7" BBS BM's on her now, next winter she gets Radinox lips 1.5 and 3.0 and I think I'm goin white with the faces and black with the barrels. I have two 16v dual fan shrouds at the powder coater now, the 16V Passat white and the slimline one black, so I have a few choices and I'm picking up the Passat dual fan rad in a few weeks.

Got the new wheels on. These things were hammered too! took two days of sanding to get the oxidation and pitting out.

When I was a teenager that was the rage. We were building Opel GT's and Manta's or Ford Capri's with the 2.3l 4 cyl. Built a few Chevy Monza's and Vega's with 350's in them, tied frames and all. Then I found VW's at around age 16 (1985) and that's all she wrote. Even though I now have a wide variety of vehicles from a 1962 Chevy shortbed flare side C-10 to my 1968 BSA Firebird Scrambler, I still own 7 VW's , I have like 2 full setups to swap carbs on an EFI Dub now, it's so much simpler when you get rid of all the vacuum lines and other EFI BS, and as stated before they sound sooooooo awesome. And IMHO the throttle response is alot sharper when done right.

How'd that go? I've had similar piles don't lose hope or motivation. I just did the complete front end suspension and lost about 5 lbs of dirt and grime.

Still is all the rage. I grew up with a Dad who is a vintage Porsche guy, so down drafts and side drafts went on a few cars. My 77 Audi got a set of sidedrafts, and one rabbit I did a single down draft conversion. And then a 16v with ITB's.

Which every one was a TON of fun. And I will have another Fox with a 20v on carbs this time

I am seriously contemplating an ABF bottom end with an AEB top end on R1 carbs. I have been searching far and wide for a dual downdraft mani for the right price as well, I want something that is period correct, if not I'll go with Roland Stanton, it seems that the South African's still appreciate the simplicity of carbs. They offered the Citi Golf with Carbs up until that model ended. I have a 1.8 carb'd head here, I believe it's like from an 03 or something. Kwabena told me they take off 50mm 16V Intakes and recycle them for the aluminum to put carbs on! that's awesome.

Got the oil cooler mounted today, it was a royal pain. I had to pull the bumper frame to get in the frame rails to tighten the bolts, also had to loosen the fender and the inner fender well cover to get the plastic ventilation ducting out of the way. Got the block off plate on too, still gotta get the freeze plug in and replace all the piping.

I pulled these out today and cleaned them off too.

Took her out for a long test drive after replacing the outer intermediate shaft bearing. But as it got dark I noticed my tail lights were not working. They only seem to work with the parking lights on, as soon as I hit the headlight switch they go out. ....Gonna replace the euro plate in front to read" The On Going Money Pit" in German......

Got the extended p/s And d/s lighting harness connected, taped up and ready to heat shrink. I gotta clean up the rest of the engine harness and get it all ready to Loom w/ some heat resistant wrap. Should have everything I need to finish her up this week. Oh yeah t the freeze plug in too, used an expand o tite until I pull it All out next year and have the ability to pound the metal freeze plug in.

Installed the high altitude chip from TT. Glad to have my throttle response back! Not to mention it doesn't smell like straight gas from the tail pipe. Based on the other cam chip i got from them, I seem to have a higher rev limiter!

I had a 79 Rabbit with an 8V JH motor & downdraft Weber. The difference was night & day from the tired CIS to the SHORT intake length & big throat of that carb. Nothing beat that sound, either.

My brother's '77 had dual 2bbl sidedrafts that were even wicked-er.

All this was at sea level, though. So, probably CIS is way faster up here. Plus this was years ago.

Got busy this weekend. Starter decided to go out so I felt it was a good time to replace the worn clutch. While I was in there I went ahead and dropped in a 19mm swaybar and an AEG manifold I had hanging around. It makes some more noise, but still doesn't move too fast.

I like the AEG mani without the dust shield. Spliced in the dual fan plug end,i also replaced all the ends and connectors on the engine harness then ran the wiring the way I want it, I'm waiting on some heat resistant wrap a friend recommended. Also pulled off the alternator and bracket in prep for the ABF seep setup, tomorrow the water pump and crank pulley comes off. Got my new Euro rear bumper w/ the silver stripe and the new lower valence in from Germany, it's goin on tomorrow too, also put some new smoked fender turns on. Pulled the vacuum canister out of the d/s fender and two random wires from the bay through the firewall, I believe they were amp and alarm. Worked in the fuel line plumbing a bit til I hit a wall, had to order a few more fittings.

Ok, after wrestling with the braided lines and the AN fittings, I am 90% finished with my fuel feed. After getting it mocked up I need one more 90 AN to NPT. As well the inline is in the mail,i went with some local boys to Colorado, Votion Speed. I still have to fab up a mount for the FPR.

      Out with the old

      In with the new

I also got rid of the two extra lines coming out of the frame rail, I cut them back and capped them.
I got my fan shrouds back from the powdercoater, got both style of Passat 16V fans, slimline 11 blade and 4 blade. Couldn't make my mind up on the color so I got one black and one white. Got some 10.4mm Autotech plug wires comin for her too, with a set of mounting bolts for lower stress bar. The Moroso V/C should be done at the coater next week, that will go on with the schrick oil pan. Well see if I have the time or money to get the headliner done this season!
