What springs did you go with? I'm trying to decide on which ones to go with myself.

You get 2.0T on the Jetta/Golf Wagon!?!?!

That is not available in Europe, and that is the car I want!

VW has stopped production of the Sportwagen SEL 2.0T in the US/Canada. It was 2009 only.

I was after a GTI, until I found this on my dealer's lot. GF likes it better and it has the same drive train, plus the interior isn't quite as decontented as the US-spec GTI is these days.

Damned shame about the 2010 JSW lineup. Guess mine is now a limited edition or something.

Right. I was originally going for the TDi JSW till I realized you couldn't get a handful of options that I felt were necessary selling points, for me at least. So then I eyed up the SEL 2.0T and then heard of the 2010. After I saw the 2010 was dropping the SEL lineup all together I jumped into the 2009.

VW seems to be having a hard time with their pricing. They seem very close to stepping on Audi's toes all the time. The MSRP on my wagen was around 29K, w/ nav(if I got it) was closer to 31K. You're right into base model A4 Avant territory at that price, even base model E91 3er range as well. As of now with them dropping the premium trim lineup I would have no choice but to move up if I want to continue having the options that I enjoy. Not really a big deal, instead of getting a new car every 3-4 years well have to wait every 4-5. Their shooting themselves in the foot the way I look at it.

so ive read through most of TCL wagon appreciation thread + mk4 wagon thread, and wanted to start one for the mk5 wagons; so post up anything related!

and if anybody knows of any new jsw mods (rear spoiler, TDI engine mods etc) post up!

Could you take a measurement of your hub-to-fender height for me? I have coils ready to go on my JSW and I'm debating where to set them. Knowing where yours is sitting would help me out a lot.

    Thanks!

Now you just have to get that hood notch filled. Its ok I still have to do that on my GTI. The grille looks good. Black and silver ftw.

well, I take photos where ever I go. And I go.. a lot. I've driven the car nearly 25,000 miles since I picked it up at the end of December. I've been to the coast 8 times since then.. to eastern Washington (over the mountains) almost as many times... and then to Canada and Oregon a couple times. It has plenty more trips to go.. and there will be plenty more photos to go through

The center of your centercaps in your wheels is where the hub is. If you measure between there and the top most part of the fender edge of your wheel well you get the most accurate measurement of ride height. That measurement takes things like wheel/tire size and tire pressure out of the equation. The measurements are typically between 13 and 15 inches. My JSW currently is sitting at 15" and the GTI is at 14.25 inches hub to fender. Your's should be in the 13 inch range I would think. Could you also get a front measurement and a back measurement, to see if the back height is different than the front?

    Thanks!

Yet in Europe they seem to have several models that crisscross one-another and compete.

Couple guys I work with drive A4's, their cars got me thinking about buying a VAG product. Unfortunately anything in the $30k+ range is simply too rich for my blood. My JSW may have stickered almost into A4 territory, but I didn't pay sticker. As it was my JSW pushed my budget a bit. But so far I think its been worth it.

    That's like ~3100 miles/mo! Gebuz, thought I was bad at ~2500 mi/mo.

Yeah, Audi and VW need to get their stuff together. Both can make great products but you obviously see VW shying away(at least in the N.A. Market) not want to make things or add options to that are easilty addable as to not come too close to an Audi.

I was looking at the new A4 Avant and E91 3er, but once I added my options I wanted the A4 was at 38k and the e91 was at 41k. I was fine with both financially speaking but the wife shot me down since she didn't want to spend more then $500/mo and wanted to pay this car off quickly whereas both the A4 and 3er we would have paid over the full term since we didn't want to put down 10k. I bent but threw in a clause that we do european delivery on a 3er a year after we pay off the VW. She bit cuz she wants to go to europe before we have kids .

Yeah, Audi and VW need to get their stuff together.

In my opinion, VW's biggest asset in the NA market is how sucky (or at least unexciting!) everyone else's product is. Most of the other makers are convinced everyone with less than $30k to spend just wants an appliance.

If Ford ever figures out how to package one of those smaller displacement "ecoboost" engines and a manual trans in a car with a hatch on the back, VW would be in some trouble. .. And like 100k monkeys with typewriters, eventually I think they will.

sorry guys, i totally forgot about it yesterday haha, but i just went out to measure it and the front was close to 12.75" and the rear was close to 12.5". hope that helps! (from bottom of the fender to the middle of the center cap)

For what it's worth to those who do not know, the measurements he gave don't indicate the car is lower in the back than the front.

The mkv rear wheelwell openings are not the same size as the front. The radius on the arc is not the same between the two. Thus, when you have a "level" ride, you may measure (and look) like you have a reverse rake effect.

Just something to keep in mind.

Nice. Did you drive on the 16s for long before going to the 18s? If so, what kind of mpg difference have you seen? Mine easily dropped 10%

    Thanks.

I put the 18s on within a month of purchasing the car. A good friend of mine purchased a loaded A4 Avant then put some HHR 19s on it. I then purchased his 18s and put them on mine.

Occasionally I will still swap the 16s back on, but honestly there isn't much of a difference in the fuel mileage.

I actually had to commute for training over a course of 3 weeks, 45 miles each way. The first week I left the 18s on and recorded 41.8 mpg. The following week I switched to the 16s and averaged 43 mpg. Given the 3% difference between the 235/40 vs. 205/55 stock tires...the MPG is almost exactly the same.

Wow, ok. I guess since I do more city driving (stop/starts), they affect mine more. I was getting between 40 and 41 with the 16s and get like 36 now.

You are probably right with your assumption. Around town, I think it would affect it more. I've never swapped back to the 16" Dittos if I am around town.

Thanks very much for the numbers! It gives me an idea of where you are sitting. Right now, I'm planning on setting my coilovers at 13.5 inches. It will definitely be higher than yours, but I hope it will not scrape on my driveway.
