Almost a week old 2010 Reflex Silver JSW TDI DSG with Roof. Only "mod" so far is 35% tint all the way around. Up next -- H&R Sport springs with TBD 18 wheels. I'm leaning toward black Raderwerks (my better half hates black wheels -- says "it looks like the hub caps fell off" ) or gunmetal VMRs. Stay tuned -- it'll all be resolved soon enough! And I know I'm not going to win any contest(s) with these pics -- just some quick shots on my way home this evening....

Going on the 3rd week with my 2010 JSW TDI and lovin it.

At this point I've installed 18" VMR Matte Black wheels, General 225/40/18 tires, Blacked out window trim, Tint, rear bumper protector and just received the H&R springs today via UPS so if weather permits I'll be installing them tomorrow.

I may be copying you here in the spring. Been wanting VMR wheels in matte black. It looks sick on platinum grey, very stelth.

How did you black out your window trim? I want to do that soooo bad.

Oh and get rid of those orange reflectors. I suggest the color matched ones. You can even get color matched inserts for the rear bumper reflectors as well. All the info(where to buy and pic of them on my car) is on page 1 of this thread.

US SportWagen S's have black window trim.. all others have chrome window trim.

I know that. That dude has a 2010 TDI, not an S. So he blacked out his trim somehow. Just wondering how. Did he swap trims? Plasti-dip his trim? Have it painted?

I wanna do it I just don't want to have to swap or remove my trim because it's too much of a pain in the ass IMO.

It was quite simple, all I did was cover all the chrome/polished trim in 2mil Matte Black vinyl. Basically I cut vinyl strips then hand layed them over the trim, took about an hour to do the job. It came out great and basically looks oem.

FWIW to all of you guys with JSWs when putting your backseats down...

When you put the bottom portion of the back seats forward, make sure you push forward in the area right behind the center console when putting down the back portion of the back seat. The bracketry under the bottom portion rubs against the top of the back portion of the backseat. This caused two holes in my seat. The dealer didn't want to cover the issue but after a call to VWOA, it was replaced. However, nothing was done to prevent it from occuring again. I'm thinking of placing some foam or something on the bracketry under the bottom backseat. I'll try to post pictures soon.

Anyone else notice this?

When I know I'm going to have the seats flat for an extended period now, I remove the bottom portion of the backseats completely so the back portions don't rub against them at all.

BTW, I will say right now that if anyone wants to trade their 2010 tinted rear lights for my 2009 non-tinted lights, please let me know. It's a long shot but someone with a red 2010 might want them to match better or something.

I just picked up my new '10 JSW this week and - thanks to a member here - now know how to remove the bottom seat cushion to flatten the load floor and not block the AC vent from cooling my dogs. Boy, I freaked out a VW salesman when I tested this on their showroom floor model!. I didn't know about the rubbing issue but will try your remedy.

this happened to me within the 1st week of purchasing the car. but i brought it in and explained to the service dude how it happened. (i thought it was the seat belt [female part] that ripped a hole in the leather) anyways they fixed it and it only took a few hours because they had to take it to the upholstery shop and it hasn't ripped on me since :knock on wood:

The vinyl I used is Arlon 2mil high performance pn#040. The only place to find some would be a sign shop but honestly most sign shops these days only carry the low quality stuff. So if your having no luck locating some I can send some your way as that I usually have plenty in stock.

As for installing it, I actually cut the vinyl in strips on a plotter then hand laid the pieces on the trim. Its not to difficult but it can be tricky lining it up perfectly so no chrome peeks through on the edges. As for the tight curve in the rear section I laid a over sized piece then trimmed it by hand. But since I'm getting quite a bit of interest in people wanting me to put together a kit I might design a pre-cut piece for that section so no excessive trimming would be required.

So yesterday I installed the H&R springs. The ride is just a tad bit stiffer then the OEM springs but to me it actually feels nicer since I have always been used to a stiffer ride.

So on a 2010 JSW TDI running 18" x 8.5" +45 wheels, 225/40/18 Tyres and H&R Sport Springs making both left and right U-turns, going up steep driveways, 3 people in the car, going over speed bumps and yet have not rubbed.

Wheels: VMR VB3 18" x 8.5" +45
Tyres: General 225/40/18
Springs: H&R Sport 54751 (1.5" F - 1.4" R)

yeah, unless the wheels poke out a bit you shouldn't rub unless you're sitting right on top of the tires, or tucking.

I don't think I've mentioned it here yet.. but I'm planning on raising my car back up slightly to avoid rubbing on the front fender liners. I've never rubbed on the fenders themselves though, but then I'm running different offsets, and slightly smaller wheels.

Get on that! A kit would be bad ass. I won't be installing much until spring anyways so you've got a couple months to get everything set.

Nice fit! That answers most of my questions. I just ordered Eibach Pro-Kits and I'm leaning toward 18" VMR V710s - I was at their shop Friday and they were out of the sale priced V708s that I originally wanted. Are the tires General Exclaims? My choice too. I guess it's too soon for you to rate them. Could you post a couple of close up pics at a sharp angle from the front and back wheels showing the horizontal fit? I'd actually like to go with 235/40-18 for the extra sidewall protection and I don't know if there would be enough room in the fenderwells on these 8.5" wide wheels.

Hello again Stacey!

Yeah I was looking into the V710s as well but went with the VB3 do to the extra savings. Yes the Generals are Exclaim UHP and your correct at this point I wouldn't be able to give you an accurate rating on them as that this is my first pair and only driven 400 miles on them at this point. Yes if you run the larger 235 on the 8.5" I'm not certain if you will clear the fender wells but you might be ok since you will be on the Eibach with a lesser of a drop but I still think it is sketchy... Your best bet would be talking with VMR on that one.

I'll work on taking some side angle photos tomorrow for ya.

Maybe suspension is the way to go. Makes the most sense for this car. Mine's in 10 days, so it'll be a clutch point in my life when I decide how to really spend my 30's; do I switch to Bushmills or Jameson.

Here's what Dave at ADB Racing Werks in Riverside CA (where I purchased and who will do the install) had to say about using the last year's part: "We had a measuring session a couple weeks ago with the MK6 and found the cars to be identical in suspension geometry etc..
I feel comfortable by 100% offering you the same products that are on the shelf."

Is H&R showing a different part number for the '10 JSW vs the '09?

BTW - I ordered 18x8.5" VMR V710s in Hyper Silver and 225/40-18 General Exclaim UHPs to be installed early next week. Can't wait!

When I called H&R they said to go with the 09 part number for the 10 as they had already confirmed that they will work. When I called Eibach they aid they were looking for a 10 to do ' a test fit. If the 09 H&Rs work and are the same, it makes sense that the 09 Eibach's will work just fine. Now I need to decide between the H&Rs and Eibach's and order... Thanks for the follow-up and information.

And great choice on wheels. I'm still deciding between Raderwerks MTEN85s in matte black or the VMR V710 in gunmetal or matte black. My JSW is Reflex Silver and I'm trying to determine if the VMR gunmetal is dark enough to contrast the car color as I definitely don't want them to "blend". Unfortunately there are no pics of Reflex Silver with gunmetal... I need to decide sooner than later because I have the $$$ burning a hole in my pocket and the indecisiveness is about to drive me crazy!

Post some pics once you are lowered and wheel'd.

last night when i was driving home from la, my wagon ran out of gas so i got off the freeway to go get gas at a chevron off the freeway and right before i got there my glow plug light came on and my car pretty much turned off as i rolled up to the pump. I figured it was just acting up since i was running on empty for about 10mi (couldn't find a diesel station ) so i pumped some gas in and when i tried to start the car to leave it wouldn't start. It didn't sound like a dead batt but i got somebody to help me jump start my car but that didn't help. the tow truck took it to storage overnight cuz it was late and theyre taking it to commonwealth vw right now

so im just wondering if anybody has any idea what might be wrong with my car?

also on a different topic, i was wondering if anybody here with beige seats/interior would want to swap for black seats/interior? mine are in good condition still, i can get pics if anybody's interested
