Thread: jetta sportwagen thread!!

I believe the answer is no. The 'city' lights on the halogen headlamps are in the headlamps themselves.

That's what I thought. Only the GT/LI's have the HID's, right? I wonder why ECS lists these for all MKV's. Must be the 2.0T that's confusing the search.

Your other friends have Mk5s that are older than the 2009 model year? That's the difference. They made the light blink on the '09s.

Search around for "shaved" rears or trunks. I didn't find a DIY, but basically, pry out the emblem, weld in some metal, sand down, re-spray turnk... and that should do it.

BTW, Race Springs on the way... finally found the time to order

anyone have a rear fog light working in their wagen?

I have the driver's euro tail installed and rear fog wired on my car..

I bought the driver's euro taillight from oemplus (other than the rear fog the lights are exactly the same as the NA lights, so no need for the passenger light).. which come with all the necessary bulbs preinstalled, so it's incredibly easy to get it installed in the car.

I've had the euro switch with the rear fog for a while.. so I just needed to plug in the trigger wire and run it to the harness under the dash... then move the wire from the backup light to the rear fog position under the dash as well. There are how-to's in this forum that explain how to do this on the mk5. You then just need to enable the rear fog in the ECU.

    oem NA driver's taillight:

oem Euro driver's taillight (notice the extra lens in the backup light position):

    I like it

Brand new member here with brand new TDI Sportwagen.
I see from the pictures that some of you have painted the chrome trim that encircles the side windows. How did you remove the trim? What paint did you use? How is it holding up? I'd really like to paint mine satin black to match my newly-painted black grille.

  20. 08-10-2009 10:20 PM #90
I would recommend removing the chrome from the car first and sanding the chome down with a light sand paper and lightly sanding it down. Use a rustoleum paint and don’t do anything for at least 36 hours after painting it should last a very long time.

Most are "S" models that come stock with the black surround. It's doable, but removing the trim is an intense process as seen here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3915129. You can alternately mask it and spray with plastdip to get that look and still be removable.

    exactly what he said...

it's a pain to remove and paint separately.. so any black trim you see is probably either on an 'S' (base model car) or someone has masked it off and painted it that way.

I'm having a really hard time picking the right shocks for the 2.0T sportwagen:

Went with H&R race springs, and will do a full H&R sway bar set (26mm f /22mm r) - now I have to make the ride tolerable on bumpy Chicago streets. I don't care too much about adjusting the dampening because I'll just set it and forget it.

Right now the thinking is either Bilstein Sports or Koni Sports.

Anyone have any wagon specific input?

    Any recommendations or suggestions??

i believe vw driver gear offers a back seat hammock style cover that hangs from the front headrests to the rear.

and have you checked out the gorrilla gear for the trunk at the dealerships? (stuff's expensive but good quality)

Yeah I saw that. I don't want her in the back seat. I'd prefer to keep her in the rear cargo area and I know places sell cargo liners that will cover everything but wanted to see if the was a JSW specific set anywhere.

I also have the gorilla gear stuff. I have the carpet mat w/the rubber bottom and the velcro block things to keep stuff from sliding around. The blocks will not hold the dog in place

My wife and I took delivery of our new JSW TDI with DSG two weeks ago. Reflex Silver on Art Gray with panoramic sunroof. This was a "Cash for Clunkers" deal, unreal how hard it was to find this model. This is our first VW. We love it!

(Note, the white 5-series wagon in the background belongs to my cousin. We're a family of wagon fans!)

Nice! Is the 5er wagon yours as well?? , you beat me to it with your edit. We're turning in my 325i sedan and I wanted a e91 3er wagon sooo bad but my wife wouldn't budge on her budget allowance, oh well next time right?

Funny you say yours was hard to find. When my wife and I were shopping we were color specific with platinum grey, I told the guy I wanted nothing else and to leave me alone if he can't find it haha. He called like 2-3 times with "we found a silver "insert city"" or "there are 3 silvers still wrapped in plastic at the port of Houston, you sure you won't take silver?". They finally found my car in Chicago. This was all in mid June.

I humbly add my nearly stock 2.0t Sportwagen to this collection of incredibly well-modified wagons. Only addition is the projector fogs, which required the installation of the highline CECM.

Interior shot. It's our only car so dual climate and memory seats were mandatory. Did convince the wifey to go with the six-speed manual tranny.

love the additions to this thread! I have PM'ed a few guys on here and never heard back regarding their jsw's so I'll go ahead and post up here. Im curious to know if I will need to buy GLI specific xenon headlights to swap on the jsw? If so people still recommending oemplus? I used to buy all my euro parts from them but its been a few years out of the dub scene for me.
