agreed..
I wish the output was a bit better, and that the pattern spread out to the side more, but I love how the oem mk5 projectors look..
the above is the ziza yellow bulbs (my last set lasted nearly 1.5 years.. while the two sets of Hella yellow bulbs I tried lasted only three months each) with clear lenses. The yellow film will just limit overall output.. which is already limited by using yellow light.

Fun fact: the 2-door golf and JSW have the same wheelbase.
We had my cousins 2-door GTI and my JSW parked side-by-side in the driveway not long ago and it took a tape measure for my father to believe it. It is deceptive.
A lot more overhang and more trunk space though. Also I love the fact that the floor is flat front to back when you put the back seats down.

it's all the same PQ35/mk5 chassis
the mk5 jetta sedan and mk5/mk6 wagon all have the same wheel base, total length, and nearly the same weight. The golf/gti just has very little behind the rear wheels. VW has built jettas and golfs like this since the beginniing.
There's a school of thought that the jetta is a better handling car, because the weight is better balanced.

I should have specified by size I meant cargo capacity. Although I did not know about the wheel base.
#2741
AFAIK, there used to be variance in the wheelbase, even within the same platform. Back in the days where there were 2-door Jettas. But I could be wrong.
What I was getting at was that everyone seems to think that the 2-door GTIs are so much more 'sporty' than the JSW because the wheelbase must be shorter, or something... right?
And of course by 'everyone', I mean those punk whipper snappers that call their GTI's "sports cars".I keep telling them to get the eff off my lawn too.

Has there been any news of MY13 changes?
Only real thing I am hoping for are xenons. I'm hoping they are a line item and not part of a package as I really want a basic JSW manual.

my wheels just came in!
and i'm thinking about painting my front grill white and paint the "stripes" and side grill black. any opinions?
going on this thing..
A friend of mine has a Jetta sedan in the same color with wolfsburg grills on it. Looks awesome IMHO. I think the white would look good too, I'm personally considering doing my cross bars in white vinyl.

Rootrider has this right regarding OEM parts. IIRC, Toeball did an OEM HID install and posted DIY instructions.
You can also buy non-OEM lights that look very OEM as many of us have done here. I would certainly prefer an OEM option, but I'm not letting the seeds keep me from eating the watermelon. JSWs are a great value in a practical, sporty car. Don't let limited headlight choice push you away. (FWIW, the OEM lights are not dim by any means. I have yet to see a report of an accident involving a JSW caused by insufficient light from JSW headlights.)
OEM HIDs are great. To do them right you need to install the leveling sensors and wire them up. You need a highline CECM. VCDS to code. You can get them with or without LED outlines.
I went with "Ed's lights" which don't have the self-leveling functionality of OEM, but they are otherwise roughly equivalent to OEM. Mine have LEDs and I love them.

I did the halogen to Xenon headlight swap.
pretty easy once you get all the parts together, coding, and follow all the posts about installing and stuff. not to hard but not that easy either.
halogen are good on output and brightness but i wanted more, so the OEM xenon swap was what needed to happen. its really a night and day difference, even more so when driving in the country roads. really lights up everything around you.
but it is kinda $$. after head lights, control module, harness, wiring, and no in my case, but labor too. it all adds up.
i did install the yellow bulbs last night but no film yet, might be TOO much yellow lol with the film.
Bunch of stuff.

kraft and outrider,
have either of you tried wiring or coding to run the LEDs on ed's lights as true DRLs? that's kinda what i'm waiting for before diving in. coding doesn't seem to work for JSWs, as far as i can tell, so i think a hard trigger wire to a switched power source is what needs to be done. have you all tried either of these? thanks![]()

Toneman, no i dont have LED's in mine. and i have no clue about coding it. sorry
Bunch of stuff.

this should be repeated.. the OEM halogen lights are actually exceptional. The pattern is very similar to the ECE/ecode pattern.. they just don't go as high up on the sides as the ecode pattern does. They are bright (nearly glaring.. it's definitely important to aim them correctly) and they make good/efficient use of the light available. I was continually impressed by how good the halogens were.. I just wanted better![]()
