Thread: jetta sportwagen thread!!

1. 08-27-2009 01:09 PM #201
For what it's worth to those who do not know, the measurements he gave don't indicate the car is lower in the back than the front.
The mkv rear wheelwell openings are not the same size as the front. The radius on the arc is not the same between the two. Thus, when you have a "level" ride, you may measure (and look) like you have a reverse rake effect.
Just something to keep in mind.

Here are a few shots of my 2009 TDI SportWagen. Currently it has 18" Audi RS-6 Wheels, 20% Tint, GLI Grills and OEM Projector Fogs.

Nice. Did you drive on the 16s for long before going to the 18s? If so, what kind of mpg difference have you seen? Mine easily dropped 10%

Thanks.
I put the 18s on within a month of purchasing the car. A good friend of mine purchased a loaded A4 Avant then put some HHR 19s on it. I then purchased his 18s and put them on mine.
Occasionally I will still swap the 16s back on, but honestly there isn't much of a difference in the fuel mileage.
I actually had to commute for training over a course of 3 weeks, 45 miles each way. The first week I left the 18s on and recorded 41.8 mpg. The following week I switched to the 16s and averaged 43 mpg. Given the 3% difference between the 235/40 vs. 205/55 stock tires...the MPG is almost exactly the same.

Wow, ok. I guess since I do more city driving (stop/starts), they affect mine more. I was getting between 40 and 41 with the 16s and get like 36 now.

You are probably right with your assumption. Around town, I think it would affect it more. I've never swapped back to the 16" Dittos if I am around town.

sorry guys, i totally forgot about it yesterday haha, but i just went out to measure it and the front was close to 12.75" and the rear was close to 12.5". hope that helps! (from bottom of the fender to the middle of the center cap)

Thanks very much for the numbers! It gives me an idea of where you are sitting. Right now, I'm planning on setting my coilovers at 13.5 inches. It will definitely be higher than yours, but I hope it will not scrape on my driveway.

Finally have a half decent picture of my car!
It's stock for now. Unless you count tint.

What's the upper limit on the coilovers? Are there many threads at 13.5" ?

I wouldn't think there would be many. The specs for the Konis say:
Approx. Lowering Height:
Front 25mm-60mm
Rear 25mm-50mm
For the fronts, that's almost an inch to about 2.3 inches. When they give drop ranges like that, it is important to know what height they started at. If they started at the height of my Wagen (around 15 inches) then it would have more than enough threads. If they started at the height of my wife's GTI (14.25 inches), not so much. My guess is that they measured the drop on an 06 or 07 GTI, when it still had the higher suspension. I guess I'll find out when I install the coilovers, which will probably be in a couple of weeks, maybe sooner.

I'd forgotten how high up the wagons look when stock..
remember the wagon's weight distribution is completely different from a gti.. so the drop numbers will be different as well.

Yeah she stands pretty tall.
I'm seriously considering either the sportline drop springs or an autotech clubsport kit.

My thoughts exactly! I'd like to see the new headlights with the car put back together.

IMO, the color matched front grille looks great on that white. Not sure how it'd do on my graphite blue, but on the white, it's tits.

i saw one person do a DIY on removing the roof rails. It might have been on the TDIclub website.

Test fit the new roof basket today. This is a steal, $99 for a Audi basket.
