I love this blog.Really gives you a closer look at the vast amount of styles and ensembles people put together...Really inspirational as a contemporary/street fashion lover and from a portraiture standpoint as well........Sartorialist is one of my bookmarks!

Maybe when I start down the path of enlightenment I will get gay taste too, but unfortunately I am still a barbarian.

I just think you are uneducated about fashion.

The things you think are "fashionable" on the men you've posted, most American's first impression when seeing a man dressed that way is that he is most likely gay. Doesn't make it right or wrong, it's just the way it is. Clothing that is perceived as feminine on a man = "gay style" to the vast majority of the world.
Also, on your last image specifically, that sweater is cut with a neck line that is normally only worn by women. The detailing on the coat is also very effeminate. The cravat is very borderline.

Such a look could easily be adapted to look slightly more masculine, if that is a concern...for example, replace the overcoat with one that is more traditionally styled:
Swap out the sweater for one with a higher vee:
Eliminate the cravat and shrink the pattern on the shirt a bit:
And there you have it. Note that these are all, assuredly, men's clothing items.
I don't know about how other people see it, but for me, the point of blogs like The Sartorialist is to draw ideas and inspirations and tweak them to fit your own style. Just as easily as that one look can be toned down, while still maintaining its basic elements, colors, and patterns, you could take a traditional look and spin it a little bit to be a little more flashy or flamboyant, if that's your taste.

I don't know, I think that's a look only a gay man could pull off. These comments typically come from individuals, namely young boys, who aren't yet ready to go beyond what they feel everyone else would accept fashion-wise. Live your life, baby.

these ppl all need a kick to the vaginI agree. Nothing about that outfit looks good to me, except that it belongs to another decade.

Quote, originally posted by Insomniac2100 » love this: I'm not gay, but I'd rock that coat in a heartbeat. The sweater looks good, but the V is way too deep, and I'd lose the ascot or whatever that is. I can dig it.
#54
I can agree about the deep v, but that coat is amazing.. gay or not.
#55
Theres nothing feminine about this sweater

I don't know, I think that's a look only a gay man could pull off.I saw this in some men's mag years ago and w/the pictorial references, it was funny and made you ponder the statement: Straight men wear what gay dudes wore 5 years ago and gay dudes wear what straight dudes wore 20 years ago.

I like the white, but would be afraid of getting something on it.
Extra points for no belt loops.

This to me has a nice vintage mood to it.

I don't like the way the tie is tied, but other than that this is good to go.

Nice color combination, but the open shirt is not sexy, the chest hair is like the scruff of the dog.

Perfect sleeve lengths, imo...well, tailored nicely in general, it appears. Very well done. Great example of how materials, colors, and textures/patterns are very important to a good outfit, but proper fit is equally, or perhaps even more, critical.

IIRC, he's a youngin', too. He wasn't even a model -simply a guy they took a picture of. I believe he was like 19 or 20.

That pic was a pretty nice look, but I would have done something different tie wise.
