Yea, I have heard good things about The Engine Lab and Vrs.

I wish I had them do a block for me when I was down that way

My motor doesn't make any noise cold, but I've only put a couple hundred miles on it and I've got some other issues to resolve...

Anyway, all of the VR's blocks I've seen have those ridges on top of the cylinder from the piston moving laterally at the top of the stroke. I don't see this as a huge issue as the rings don't make it up that high, but would still be nice to have a clean wall to drop shiny new pistons in. Drew, are you all out of stock blocks to drop in?

As far as engine lab goes I have heard great things
but down time, finding a block, transporting it to tampa, lead time on work, all these variables impair me from having my daily back to me in a timely manner.
I understand I am being difficult, but drop in pistons, and fresh bearing just seem like a timely solution.
even though tracking down the pistons isn't proving to be timely.

yea I am out of stock blocks,
The block I am using has approximately 40k on it and its one of the best blocks I have laid eyes on, the bearing journals are mint
When finding another block that may have more milage I have more concern about the bearing journals, and the intermediate shaft bearing, because those are things that have given me problems in past motors.
My personal horrifying experiences with past engines have tweaked how I look at the motors and where the problem areas actually are.

Completely understandable Drew. Just out of curiosity, where did you get your quote for CP's from?

Nope, makes complete sense to try and find drop ins in your case.

In that case I would be saving on the pistons and the money saved could go towards machine work but I am still cash limited right now.
and my schedual is total bollocks

Oh and still no word from schimmel performance on pistons yet. They have not gotten back to me via the email or message I left.
Is Mr. Blank still connected to schimmel?

I sent a couple of pms out, I hope some fellow vortexers can come through and I will be able to at least sees if he stocks them/ or can get them in a more timely manner than 3-4 weeks.
I am trying to waste as little time as possible.

I've been following that thread for a while, its a nice build.
I don't have aspirations that big, I just want a fun car.
Thanks to the awesome vortex community and its very helpful members, I should hopefully be hearing from SP about pricing and lead time on 81mm pistons.

the plan is to have only two accessible couplers in the system at the tb and a the turbo outlet
everything else is vband/ welded

This is not the best idea.
You are going to need a hump in there somewhere...definitely if you bracket the pipes - which you should.
Unless you have solid motor mounts(aluminum) something is going to break.
I really dont think one hump at the turbo and one at the tb is going to cut it.
You are going to be constantly popping the tb pipe off when the motor lifts.
This reminds me of the time someone told me that no flex in their downpipe would never break because the exhaust hangers act as the flex

pipes will not be bracketed
the car has bfi mounts and the motor is damn near immobile

I got in contact with schimmel, he had nothing stocked in 81mm size. and his lead time for having a set made was 4-6 weeks.
I went with four season tuning because there lead time was the most reasonable at 7-10 days
Thanks for chiming in to help though man

Its nice you got your cams. So now I guess you are kinda "forced" to just put all the new parts on, instead of doing it in stages when you find free time. Cant complain though, it'll be fun to drive when its done.
Give it a month or 2 and we can finally ride out together with both of our Corrados! Its been a long time
