What are some good examples of otherwise terrible cars that have been fancied up by automakers to resemble something decent? Im thinking like turbo K-cars, for exampleor turbo minivans
Or Caliber SRT4, Cadillac Cimarron, etc

Several manufacturers turned to forced induction on their four bangers to appease the market's demand for more power- before they had viable V6 engines, and even vehicles that would accept the V6 engines (see Previa). There was no "shining a turd" with minivans in the 80s. The Mopars were good minivans. They were not marketed as sports cars or premium vehicles.

No way. I had an 84 6000STE and loved it to death. 130+/- hp sucked, but what a ride it was. I miss it today

Except for the stickers on the door, that's all factory
I think it might have been only for the Canadian market. I've seen one.

I think VW was still selling the two door Golf 8V 2.0 in 1999- which made the 8V 2.0 "GTI" a confusing offering. It's sad when your sport model can be outperformed (handling, acceleration- but not brakes) by a Cavalier rental sled.

I thought the 1999-up GTIs were 1.8T or VR6 powered. If it had the 2.0 then it was simply a golf, and did not carry the GTI badge.

the cobalt ss, for all it's fwd tire burning powahhh, is in fact a factory polished turd.with that being said - the Caliber SRT-4 by FAR takes the cake on biggest american built factory polished turd...

Winner.
I am still not too sure why anyone would pay the premium over a regular Caravan.
