Best of the best, huh?.... Then you want these: BFI Stage 2 Delrin Complete Motor Mount Kit

i had a question. On my z28 and other muscle cars, all of the motor and tranny mounts available had a metal linkage inside so that in the event of breakage, the linkage would catch and the mount would at least keep your motor/trans from going anywhere. Is there a similar design available for a mk4 12v VR6? I'd like to replace my mounts with poly and I was just curious.

    Thanks

Though we have little basis for comparison to American Muscle, we believe that even during/after a catastrophic failure (which is highly unlikely, mind you), that a VW drivetrain will remain within the engine compartment and not need any sort of supplemental linkage tethering it to the vehicle. Solid German engineering is all you really need in this case - our BFI Engine Mounts are no exception and will perform as well or better under similar circumstances

I had purchased the stealth kit for my vr. It is my daily driver with some mild mods, (cam, chip, intake, exhaust, 11:1 cr, P&P) i wanted a nice comfortable ride. They were nice for a while but i still had some engine movement. Just my luck my buddy had just installed the Derlin kit on his ABA and was killing him self for doing so. We ended up swaping rear mounts, his Derlin for my stealth, and i have never been happier. it has almost no vibration and under accel the engine doesnt move at all.
    Killer product

OMG, I am so psyched, just got my stage 1 kit and super excited. cant wait till the weekend. Only downfall about this is that I dont have a garage, I live in Minnesota and the high temp for the weekend is 10F with out the windchill factor. SO basically, I will be doing this in 0F weather... nothing is gonna stop me from doing this. not even the cold.

P.S, is the trany mount hard to do?? I have never done this before.

The installation guide can be found here: MK3 Motor Mounts

Best of luck in those frigid conditions!

i've had the stage1 kit for about a year on my 2.0 and it rattles everything to pieces (literally having problems with the intake bolts coming out). i do plan on using it for the vr6 when that goes in. the problem is, the front mount upper bolt ripped out ... i also noticed the kit never had washers?i think that may be the heavy vibration problems. i'm not sure what happened, but expect me to order another one soon as well as lots of goodies for the vr6

Just installed a set of the .5 mounts in my 'rado this weekend. They definitely improved the overall feel of the car. Decreased engine movement a lot compared to the stock mounts, and it shifts much smoother now.

how bad of a vibration does the stage 1 give. My car shakes super bad, is that normal
ALSO, should I remove the rubber cap that fits over the front mount? other guys in their vr's said that removing the cap made a lot of difference

There should be a significant amount of increased vibration with the stage 1 mounts compared to the factory mounts you had in there previously. You can try removing the cap but to our knowledge it should not make much of a difference if at all since it's actually a heat shield.

the stage one mounts are amazing. they are a bit stiff at 1st but I've put on about 200 miles so far and they seem to be breaking in slowly. The ride quality is a bit scary at 1st but Ive gotten use to the vibrations and after a while the car seem to drive like it was stock.
you can really feel the mounts working when you open her up on the HWY.
I am very happy with the mounts!
    thanks BFI!!!!!!
Just one more question guys, should i torque the mount nuts again after about 500 miles or am i good to go. ?

nothing wrong with the mounts man. It is just a little disturbing/ scary at 1st when you drive it for the 1st time because the car just feels different than what you were use too before the upgrade.
lots of new noises and rattles.

It definitely wouldn't hurt to check the torque on the nuts after the break in period but we don't deem it necessary. Thanks for the feedback!

I've got a Stage 1 front engine mount on my VRT.

I’m a bit concerned about the bottom bolt as I seem to be getting some engine lift under power. I guess it may be the threads inside the cross member letting go?

Is it possible for me to use a single long bolt’n’nut to hold the top and bottom mounts together securely?

    M10 x1.5?

Are the rest of your mounts upgraded as well? You should also double check the torque on the bolt and feel free to use loctite if you feel necessary.

Hey guys, I went to buy a stage 1 dogbone bushing kit for my MKIV VR6 and a snub mount for my Audi Avant B6, and in checkout I see that shipping is over $17 to ship to 59044. I'm in the lower 48, is there an option to ship USPS? I think both those item could fit in a flat rate $5 box...

Love the product, but man, I don't want to get beat up on shipping costs for two very small items.

    Mike,

Currently, we only ship with UPS. Our website is directly linked with UPS which is how the site is able to provide a shipping amount during checkout. As a supplement, all of our packages go out fully insured when shipped via UPS ground.
As well, shipping and freight costs can be more depending on destination. For example, if you live an excessive distance from the nearest UPS hub, their system recognizes this and raises quote costs accordingly to accommodate the distance. This may have been the case with your order.

Thanks Pete, I appreciate the reply. I suppose the real answer is tough sh*t for me, and I need to pay to play, and it's just a matter of a few bucks. But I don't live off the beaten path...there's a big UPS distro shop here in town, and anything under $100 is automatically insured with no additional cost.

I'm not usually a big proponent of using USPS, but they do pick up and deliver 6 days a week, plus have lower costs for standard and flat rate items. I don't control anything with BFI, but you should consider diversifying your shipping methods to include another carrier, or at the minimum negotiate with UPS for lower rates based on volume or carrier exclusivity (single carrier company). Especially because your business plan and income model is direct manufacturing, with online based sales and direct shipping to all your customers.

If UPS decided to go on strike again, what's your continuity plan? (I don't need an answer, it's a hypothetical)

Anyway, when I get sick of hearing my motors clunk around, I'll pony up, because BFI truly makes great products. Till then, at least consider my suggestion. Thanks.
