I am actually planning an all day event working on the gti tomorrow. I will make sure the intercooler is the first thing to come off. If you are available and want to see it removed so you know how to put it back in thats cool. Just picked up my new dv and exhaust bracket today. Should have about everything I need to put it back together.
On a side note, they have a TDI cup jetta at walker that is beautiful!

no sweat man, just shoot me a text tonight and let me knwo when you plan on starting so that i can make sure i'm there, cause i know i'm going to need to see it done. then i'll drive home and put it on

not this year. Hoping to get some more help and interest and do something bigger and better next year.
#1829
yeah, it would've been nice to have done it again, but we just don't have our act together this year, to be honest.
rich, thanks for letting me get that intercooler today, the install was pretty cake once i watched you take it off your car. i relocated both horns so they both still work, but i had to kind of modify the driver's side mounting point for the intercooler piping. if i lined up the bolt holes, the piping was about 1" too far towards the rear of the car than it should've been, so i did some bracketing and it's held up like a champ now. i also had to trim some of the plastic by the fog grilles so that the bumper would slide back to where it belongs. it looks mean as hell now from the front. i left the piping polished because i figured that the paint wont stick to it anyway. test drove it and it's holding boost okay for now.
also replaced that EA pipe and but the drain valve on the catch can today. feels good to have had a productive day on the gti.
glad to hear you're boosting again rich. hope you were able to get everything done that you wanted to.

got the stock intercooler cleaned up and everything went back together fine. New DV made a world of difference. My stock one came out in a couple pieces. Car feels the strongest it has ever felt so I am kinda wondering how long I was leakin boost without knowing it.

let me know if you are around either day this weekend. We can figure something out. Cody's came out pretty nice but there are a bunch of swrl marks I need to fix. We buffed it in his dark garage so I didn't notice them until later at the car wash. Very easy touch ups though.

Sunday sounds good to me. Let me know what time works for you. Its best to have the car as clean as possible so we can just give it a quick rinse when you get to the house.
#1836
alright. just means i'll have to wash it before i go to your house, which i was planning on doing anyway.

Hey D I got a couple lawns to mow this morning. Im gonna try to hurry but not sure what time I will make it back. Im thinkin it might be best to just do it in your garage if we can. Then you can still have time to get a couple coats of wax on it before dark. I will give you a call when I am done mowing to let you know whats up. Can you text me ur home # again?

so my step dads g35x just blew the motor at a little over 100k miles.
warranty ended at 70k and dealer won't do anything for him even though the mechanic says it was clearly an engine defect...
sucks, i don't have that kind of money, but i know he paid for the car in full when he bough it, and now its just gone pretty much.
it was an 07...all dealer serviced and up on all service, just put new tires on it and had a major service on it...
they want to do something like cut the price on a new infiniti g37 from 39 to 36 then give him 5k for trade in...so pretty much nothing he couldnt negotiate anyways...or they wanted to charge him 13,000 for putting a new motor in, 10k for the motor 3k for labor...he can't justify spending that much on it
boo, i say, sucks, it is/was a really nice car

Man that sucks. Its hard to say what to do. If he's really attached to the car I would find a junkyard motor and have a mechanic you know do the swap.
Also you say he "blew" the motor. That can mean a lot of things. Is there a rod pokin through the side of the block. Is it seized. Or did one of the rings just give it up and stop holding compression. Some things may not be overly expensive to just have the current motor repaired.
#1853
yea i've thought about that too, i wasn't relayed all information so im not sure exactly what happened to the motor, just that the coolant and oil mixed in the engine, and its not a headgasket....i'll ask more in depth what happened to the car tonight.

says the motor is seized and something happened with the valves too
and according to the mechanic the engine is no good and beyond repair
