im going stage 2 uni tune with my gli with most of the standard basic bolt ons (tip, 3"turboback,dv,sri, etc.).
i Daily drive this car 25miles each way to work, on 495 from VA to MD so that equals almost an hour in traffic.

while i do plan on at one point getting a frankenturbo or something, it wont be for a least 6 months from now or so at the very earliest.

would getting the stage 2 motor and transmission mounts be too much in terms of vibration and rattles for a 50 mile drive each day as a daily driver?

also will you be having a sale on these during h20 next week?

I would recommend Stage 1 Complete Replacement Mounts given your existing modifications and your daily commute.
They will provide an immediate improvement over your stock mounts, minimize vibrations and also give you the option to upgrade to stiffer inserts if you end up going big turbo in the future.
You see, our Complete Replacements Mounts are modular; the benefit being the ability to upgrade the inserts at any time.
Stage 1, 2 & 3 inserts are available on our website for individual sale, which makes it easy to go from Stage 1 to Stage 2.

Here's good reason to replace your trans inserts.. 130k of daily driving means your stock insert is smooshed.

ive been running the stage 1 motor and trans mounts in my gli for the past 2 months, and initially the vibration and rattling of random vents/parts/areas in my car were ridiculous, they have toned down now and i like the vibration feel but there is still decent rattling in my car, specifically in the center air vents, occasionally the sunroof, and some other random areas.

my biggest concern is though, once i put them in, ive been hearing a lot of random noises that my car makes when i say, back the car up or start going forward, making a tight turn even while going only 3 miles an hour because of having to turn around, etc, it makes noises that sound like the car is falling apart and some part of the car could be bending...maybe im just stupid, but i was wondering if anything like that has come up for anyone or you guys at BFI

    stephenjakim,

There will always be some additional vibrations when upgrading your motor mounts, but our Stage 1 units are designed to minimize vibrations, while maximizing performance. The majority of vibrations should be felt in the steering wheel and shifter. Some dashboard vibrations are normal as well, particularly in the colder months when the plastics are more prone to rattle regardless of mount type.
If your car "sounds like it's falling apart", I would highly recommend inspecting each mount to ensure that everything is installed correctly. This is abnormal.
If you find anything that causes concern, please PM me or e-mail me at pete@blackforestindustries.com

Just installed the complete kit for my 1.8t yesterday. Only took around a hour and install was a breeze. The initial vibration was horrible but already took a trip this morning for 200 miles and it already helped. I heard 1000 miles is full break in so ill see. Overall I like them and it helped my shifting a lot. My trans was shot. Lol

    Bierce,

    Thanks for the feedback!
Yes, the mounts will become less aggressive feeling over time.
Break-in takes anywhere from 100-1000 miles depending on driving habits and climate. My personal 1.8t GLI took a few hundred miles before the harshness wore off.
Now that they're broken in, there's virtually no vibrations, but plenty of added performance!

A big thanks to Pete @ BFI, for the FAST email response on Friday when I had a question about the trans mount install. I installed the mount on Saturday and had the car back on the road in less than a hour and half! No noticeable increase in vibrations, but the engine feels MUCH more solid.

Next up is the engine mount... you guys having a holiday sale??

Any reason why these wouldn't work with 1" engine mount spacers?

The only engine mount spacers I'm familiar with are the Euro Imagine units.
As far as I know, our engine mounts will work with these spacers without issue.

So there is no downside to replacing the transmission mount with the inserts now....and then later down the road getting the engine mount (pass side) to complete the pair? (I already have the ECStuning ultimate dogbone).

The only downsides would be the engine side mount possibly wearing out a little quicker.
That and the remorse you'll feel for not having replaced both mounts at the same time and enjoying the increased performance.
