Thread: 2nd-3rd Hard Shift (01M)

  1. 08-25-2009 11:37 PM #1
Any suggestions on what may be causing a hard shift from 2nd to 3rd gear? It's hard enough to jerk the car. Base on my observations, it only occurs when the trans temps are cool/engine not up to operating temp. It does not occur every day...maybe once/twice a week and I drive every day. With the car at operating temp and trans temps above 80 deg F, it has rarely ever occurred. I'm stumped on this one. Thanks for any input.

I just bought a jetta for a cheap price that had this same problem. i hooked up the vag.com and it said valve 6 (solenoid N93) short. I have been looking on here and reading a little bit about all the solenoids on the O1M tranny and it seems to be a common problem.

I know its not a O1M tranny he is referring to but it will give you an idea.
    Hope it works for you

Hmmm...I need to find someone with vag-com in the area and see if there are any TCM codes. Thanks for the info.

By the way, did you fix your harsh shift problem? Did replacing the solenoid take care of it?

You could have a common problem where the TCM stops commanding pressure drop during a shift.

    See this post...

The TCM will sometimes stop commanding pressure drop on a specific shift. The thread that I linked to shows how to test for this.

Auto trans fluid change or flush will not make a trans fail. Stop spreading the wives tale/urban myth.

Thanks. If this is the case, would TCM replacement be necessary?
