Thread: Have question about relay 173

    1. 08-26-2009 08:22 PM #1
I have a 2000 Passat V6 and just put in a HID kit. I now want to remove my day time running lights because I hear it's the smart thing to do. When I went to pull relay 173, I found I don't have that specific one. However, I do have daytime running lights. Is it a different relay number for different models? Or does it all run the same? If so how is this possible?!? How hard is it to pull out the light dial to cover the pins?

Also if I drive with the head light switch on, is that still bad considering I still have running lights? Is it even really bad?

      Any help would be great!

Yea, I've never seen one without it, it's possible yours may have been replaced at some time with one that didn't have "173" marked on it, but never seen that before.

As far as running with your lights on, that should be fine. The limited current can do weird things to the balast, but as long at their on full you'll be fine.

BTW, if you want quicker answers, might also try posting on Passatworld.com, there's a lot more activity there than here.

yeah I do see that passatworld is bumping...anyhoo appreciate the answers guys, I still find it hard to believe there is no relay 173 in my car. So I just pulled out the light dial and covered TFL and solved it that way.

      .
The wires behind it are these

      Why do you want DRLs?

If you don't have the relay PM me. I'll send you one for $5 and the cost of the postage.

You have an "Euro" switch so I believe you will also need a US switch to get your DRLs back.
