I bought this car on a trip from Pittsburgh to Boston at a stop off at the Philadelphia turnpike. It made it home - A week later I had to get the transmission rebuilt.

1999 (Needs Paint - and pretty much everything else)

2.0, intake, some cams, rebuilt transmssion

    Paint ! (2000)

    Leaving PA for SF (2000)

First time in San Diego (2000)

    Northern California.

Ouch - got er fixed a few months later.

Back in Pittsburgh around 2006 (moved to San Diego w/out her in 03')

Attempted a drive to Philadelphia for Xmas - will be a loud sleigh ride tonight the gf thinks.

At work 9/17/09 (Had her shipped to San Diego 2007) Needs paint again.

I never named the car but, if I did, if would be Rosarito - The farthest south I've taken her.

Most likely... R.I.P. and sketchy on Cincy now, of course. Just so happens that my wagon has the dash ripped out, so I'm carless...

If anyone in Pittsburgh has a lead on a Scirocco or some sort of diesel hatch/wagon, let me know.

My cousin got there first w/ that one... when my Passat got rear ended last year, that's litereally what the quote was for... I just had to readjust the bumper on that one. Looks like it's time to get a car I don't really care about as much for city driving.

The Duck had a wild ride... it will probably be a long road to get another Scirocco back to this point. Might just get a shell and paint it the color that I always wanted, but daily driver days are probably gone for me and any future Scirocco.

Where exactly do we look up values on these, these days?

Unlike what the insurance company will tell you that the car is worth x because of the blue book value. The value you are looking for is real market value. I would suggest seeing the classifieds, ebay and the like with in a rnage of say 100, 300, 500 miles from you. Print out ads for similar condition cars to have with you for reference. If you see some that sold on the classifieds here in vortex print those too.

The ajuster will take notice. If you prepare before you see them you will have a better chnace to recouperate the real value of the car. I was insulted after the hit my 82 suffered years ago. Front PS fender, door and a little of the 1/4 panel. No structural damage to the frame, mostly body panles, but because of the age of the car they thought they were dealing with another uneducated old (beater) car driver. At the time a similar condition 83 had sold for a pretty penny in Ebay.

The ins co wanted to scrap it and give me pennies....I held out and show them everything I had and told them what I wanted for the repairs. made then swear that no salvage issues would come to my tittle and then I signed for the check and called it a day.

Good luck, get your ducks in a row and have documentation.

It's probably going to be a good while before I get another Scirocco to start working on. Since my Passat wagon is now up in age/mileage and currently ripped apart, I got a 2009 Subaru Outback wagon w/ extended warranty yesterday. Won't be able to wrench too much, going back to school this fall.

I might even start w/ a clean shell and finally have a (looks like the color is bordeaux red pearl lb3a) 16v Scirocco... I've never seen one, but I think it would look nice w/ the body kit.

ehh... $1600 estimate due to paint/245,000 miles on OD, then maybe $500 to buy back filing PA title change... almost not even worth my time to take the settlement.

I bought my black 16v back for $95 after being valued at $1600, fyi. Got to keep the car and got a check for $1043 after the deductible and buyback amount. Made another $1200 or so parting it out, with a lot of parts still remaining.
    Deal with it.

This might be crazy, but since I'm not getting enough cash out of this to justify my time (at this point) of starting w/ a new shell, not having a scirocco to drive for a long time... I think I'm going to have a really good body work friend look at this to see if it would be repairable. Anyone think it would be possible/worth it?

There's a buckle just behind the fuel filler. May need to be put on a frame machine/add some bracing. Still waiting for my buddy to check it out. I already happen to have a spare bumper cover, tail lights.

I have a drivers side quarter panel if you need it. And a non-sunroof roof, but I doubt yours is damaged.
    Deal with it.

Autobody friend says no go (or at least not worth it). Also have a slight ripple in front of the passenger side rear wheel.

How is that even possible? Your car was rear ended, of course it was their client's fault!

edit: too bad you're not out here. There is a clean one on the local Craigslist right now:

Because if 60% of the people accept that on an older car they just saved THOUSANDS.

Contact your insurance company, if you had comp/collision and they'll take care of it and take him to court if they are worth it.

That said, I have seen body guys that can fix that, whether it be from cutting out new corners to stretching and heat/shrink the metal back. All is not lost.
