Instrumentation straight out of a submarine!
Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. A normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow.

I can't believe there are cars now with about 1/2 of this thing's hp and running the same times 0-60.

If anything, that helps the 0-60 time. As the article states, it hit 60mph in 1st gear - no time wasted shifting gears. If the car wasn't geared for a 218 MPH top speed, the 0-60 time would have been even lower.

625bhp and only a 4.2 0-60?? A breathed on STI could probably do that, lol. I bet that thing would be a hoot to drive, it just looks ridiculous and that dash is just funny looking. I like it![]()

No not even close, but was I talking about top speed?

True, I would guess traction and launch control weren't exactly around to help this thing.

good luck getting an sti to trap 124 in the quarter mile without a crap load of money dumped into the motor.

0-60 times are such a stupid way to judge a sports car 0-60 has more to do with traction than anything.

The Toronado's engine (and transmission) was longitudinal, with a differential at the front like a T. This car must have its own diff casing (like most transverse FWD cars of the time) - no mention of it in the article. I wonder how they changed the diff output to the drive shafts? Was it one of the custom-made parts mentioned? I'd think it would have been explained but it wasn't.![]()

I think that car was brilliant, shame they stopped making them.

Look at the final drive ratio - hell the thing is turning 1955 RPM @ 60 MPH in top gear. The Vector was designed for top speed. With a shorter final drive ratio (which would reduce top speed) the 0-60 time would drop. 0-60 times are for normal cars. Supercars are all about top speed - though it's 0-60 time was pretty damn impressive back in 1990.

Anyone remember this car in Gran Turismo 2? The three-speed made it pretty amusing to play with.

I love this car. I would love to see what it would do in the 0-100-0 that I believe C&D does sometimes?
Whatever, Id like to see it. Or at least read about it.

Thats really cool, could you get pics? I heard that they only actually made 2 and just painted them different colors for promos to make it look like they were in higher production.

Seeing the recent C&C thread today made me remember the one I saw in '06. Thought I'd add some pics I took.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

Those are teh awesomeness. I love the whole mystique and over-the-topness of those early vectors, as well as the little stories surrounding like the lock-out and the agassi mishap. Talk about one man's vision coming to fruition, albeit it a disappointing and protracted sort of way. Kind of reminds of the tucker story. But yeah, nifty stuff.
