I get about 20 to and from work ( about 55 there and back) and less in the city (around 16-18). But I also like the fun pedal a lot![]()

What does your average 12v vr6 get in the way of gas mileage? How about one with a CAI?

i can get 23mpg on the highway doin 80 or 27mpg when im stuck behind slow drivers doin 60. all i got is a short ram intake though
#5
a significant difference from the previous response. Is that because you're driving an mkIII not an mkIV?
8V Society #152

My 98 MkIII gets around 27 MPG at 70 MPH cruise. When the weather is extremely hot, it drops to about 25 or so. I made 570 mile drive recently and averaged 26 MPH at speeds of 75-85 the whole time.On my 13 mile commute to work, there are 10 traffic lights and speeds run between 45 mph and 70 mph. I've been driving this route for 11 years and my mileage is a consistent 23 MPH average. Stock intake, GIAC chip, cat-back exhaust. Hope this helps. -Chris

My '95 VR with 215k miles gets 26.5-27.5 mpg on the highway averaging around 70 mphFor trips of 10-25 miles of mixed suburban & highway it'll be in the 20.0-24.0 range.
Short trips = garbage milage 15.0-21.0
I replaced the head gasket(to MkIV) & Cat last year so that probably has notched up my mileage a bit.

ok cool. That's what i was looking for. I may be getting a 5spd mk4 soon, and was just curious.

I rarely ever get less than 23 mpg unless I'm getting on it a lot. I normally see 26-30mpg if I'm going for the mileage factor. I can pull 30mpg fairly easy in mixed driving if I'm not using my a/c.
#11
I get an average 24-27 if im using unleaded. If im using premium I get closer to 26-30![]()
#12
I get 30 on my 45 minute drive that is 99% interstate ... while I was doing field service tech work (lots of downtown driving) I averaged 23mpg...OH pertinent<sp> mods, GIAC Chip, custom cold air intake (made of PVC), and lightweight flywheel

I just picked up my girlfriend from MST a week ago. The highway's speed limit was 70 so I was going anywhere from 80-90 at most points. I got about 335 miles on about 12 gallons so a little over 27mpg![]()
I've never got that much before and I've owned the car coming on four years... Faster = more efficient? As far as I'm concerned

the recent weather (GLORIOUS!!!!) I'm sure is doing wonders for my MPG ... I'm loving the 60 degree'ish weather!

Stock, I was getting 26 or 27 in my 2K VR.After under drive pullies, CAI, Ignition system upgrade, Synthetic Oil, 1 size larger diameter tires, about 15 - 20 less turns per mile, I am getting 30+ MPG. I get about 405 miles to a tank full driving 100% highway keeping it under 65.
I have 256 cams and GIAC chip too and use regular spark plugs
202K miles in this car now.......

on a trip to palm springs i got 34mpg total there and back, the drive though was very diverse. lots of hills and stuff to roll on. took about 3/4 tank to do 400 miles. thats my personal best. i had intake exhaust and suspension on my mk3 97 vr6 plan on getting 32 at best on the freeway if you're really economical

Does the mpg increase, decrease, or stay the same once a turbo is added?
8V Society #152
#21
depends on exactly when you mean ... immediately after install mpg goes WAY down ... 6-8 months later (assuming you're on on an upgrade path because you realized that the world is better at 2g's of acceleration) some do see a marked increase in mpg...joking aside, theoretically, you can/should see an increase in mpg. instead of relying strictly on ambiant airflow to push air into the engine, you've got the turbo that is pumping air into the engine in a closed system. Apart from that, I'd venture to say that the air is probably more turbulant than ambiant airflow into the engine.

I average about 29-32 highway, 33 on a recent trip using neutral whenever I could. I have A homemade intake and 1.8t sensor and running on the stock 15's on 205/50's and 195/55 rear, on my 16's with 205/40's I get about 25-28. Make sure your TB and intake parts are clean, maf is clean, etc. I gained about 2 mpg from cleaning everything a few months ago. Make sure you're using maf specific and TB specific cleaner though.

My 92 SLC with 262 cams can get me 22 on average, and that's with the occasional spirited driving![]()

Ya our shorter gear ratios don't help.
I average about 24-25 mpg every tank with probably 60% city 40% highway driving. And that includes having fun with on ramps/off ramps/back roads. My MFA usually only says 19ish, no idea why it's off.... but I do the math every time I fill up. Best I ever got while trying to hyper mile in the city and doing ~75 on the highways was 28mpg.
