I spend 2-3 months a year woking in Asia - I don't concur. Street food tastes good the way that BBQ tastes good while camping IMO.

I'm in Changchun now, enjoying the balmy -9 to -22c temps. I wouldn't eat the street food here if it was given away for free.

I wouldn't eat anything on the street in most of China either! haha (particularly not in that weather)

I think you and Wayne are both generalising Whether "street food" is good or not just depends on where in Asia you are If you're spending most of your time in mainland china, then I'm not surprised you think it's crap haha (they eat animal parts I didn't even know existed)

Now you are generalising too. I happen to know street stores in Suzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai that have incredible food! (ok so my bro lives there and he knows where to go...)

Sure, but I haven't seen donkey, congealed pig's blood or wood lavae in any Syd yumcha I've been to!

Congealed pig's blood is available at yumcha too, at some places anyway. Failing that, pho places will have it. Next?

I listed two others. Plus haven't been to any AU yumcha places that will serve food still looking back at you.

Haha. Try druken prawns btw. It's awesome. What they do is soak the live prawns in alcohol, and you eat it while it's still alive. WHen you open the lid, they will jump, but you just pick one up and eat anyway. Now that is food that looks back at you.

In my time I have tried turtle (very common in Asia), monkey brains, bats, brown bears (in Finland actually, not Asia) etc etc. Nothing is too weird for me. I am Azn afterall!

      Ok;

      1. Escamoles: Mexico

Eggs of the large, black, venomous Liometopum ant, sometimes called 'insect caviar.' They have the texture of cottage cheese and are often eaten in tacos with guacamole.

      2. Casu Marzu: Sardinia, Italy

The eggs of the Piophila casei, or 'cheese fly' are put in sheep milk cheese. The larvae eat it, the acid from their digestive system makes the cheese softer. By the time Casu Marzu is ready to be eaten, it will contain thousands of maggots. (Barf!)

      3. Lutefisk: Norway

Codfish which has been soaked in lye for two days, a substance so corrosive that it can disintegrate silver utensils. A long cold water bath helps to dilute the stuff, but still... Another reason to avoid: if the fish is soaked for too long, the fat turns to soap.

      4. Baby Mice Wine: Korea

A traditional Asian 'health tonic' in which live mice are shoved inside a bottle of rice wine and left to ferment. It supposedly tastes like gasoline.

      5. KFC Chicken burger

Antonio Carluccio eats that on his Southern Italian Feast TV series. You scrape around the maggots with a bit of crusty bread or a biscuit. There is a video on the interwebs somewhere.

just read an article in yesterday's finreview, in regards to a new restaurant/cellar door/guest suites just been built at port philip estate in the mornington penin. i can't say enough about the kooyong range of wines by winemaker, sandro mosele. they are paragons of restraint, in a look-at-me world of fascades. these blokes never do things by halves, so may def be worth checking out?

      Here's one for McTodd

Currently sitting at the local Maccas while I wait for my Naked DSL to get connected. Earlier, I decided to indulge in one of the tasty burgers. Take a look up at the new "M Selections" menu and what do I see? No fukken McFeast that's for sure.

Question: What the ***? Where has the McFeast gone?

Todd, please pass on the following to McCorporate.

      Dear Arsewipes,

WTF is wrong with you fukken McDouchebags? Bring back the McFeast Deluxe immediately. I reserve the right to take legal action leading to the reintroduction of the McFeast Deluxe.

      Sincerely,

      McAngry.
