BTW there are more then a few legal ones in the US. The rallye is on the elgibility list now for import so a registered importer who know how to bring one up to spec can legally bring one in for there customer tomorrow if they had the fund.

but none have other than the guy in NV, AFAIK

I was under the impression that was a VWOA car used for marketing and is the only one VW had brought in. If the car is on the import list which I have the docs showing it is then it could be brought in 100% legal. The cost of course is very high to do this correct; so high in fact it is easier to buy or have a house in Canada
Getting back on topic these are all great cars and all drive very different. The E30 M3 being very different then the AWD cars, then you have the difference between a charged car, normally aspirated and turbo charged. Lots of fun though.......
      Thanks,
      Ty

ech, why'd they use a Quattro WR?
the MB and RR motored ones were much better.
I'd take the Quattro, to be honest.
a few years ago, I'd have said the Lancia... but after reading about the maintenance and the difficulty in finding parts... and the rust... and all the other bad things about Lancias of the 80s... I don't want one anymore.
I still love the way they look, but the problems with them are too much.
The E30 M3 is nice, but a bit pokey. Need to rev them out a bit to make them useful.
The Rallye Golf is probably the second most interesting. I always liked the way they look and I'm actually a big fan of the G60 (SHOCK!)
we've been playing with G60s since 1998, and I still enjoy fiddling with them.
God, I sound like a VW Audi fanboi...

What, no Citroën BX 4TC love?

Citroën entered Group B rallying with the BX in 1986. The specially-designed rally BX was called the BX 4TC and bore little resemblance to the standard BX. It had a very long nose because the engine (derived from the Peugeot 505 engine) was mounted longitudinally. Interestingly, the rally version of the BX also featured the unique hydropneumatic suspension. Because of the Group B regulations, 200 street versions of the 4TC also had to be built.
The 4TC was never very successful in World Rally Championship competition, its best result being 6th place in the 1986 Swedish Rally, and Citroën only participated in three Group B rallies before the Group B class was banned in late 1986, following the death of Henri Toivonen in his Lancia Delta S4 at the Tour de Corse Rally. Citroën was ashamed of the performance of its cars, and immediately recalled and scrapped as many examples as it could, making the BX 4TC road and race cars extremely rare and sought-after.
      The street version:

I think you posted every photo of the BX 4TC known to man

look at that intake manifold... mm MMM
interesting. only made 258ft lbs of torque. that's what a stock AAN makes.
      I think the turbo was a K26.

Also, the part about 17.4psi more than DOUBLE what other cars make.
my AAN makes 17.3 with a very old Lehmann chip. only +2psi over stock.
Modern chips for my car make 20psi from the stock K24 (much smaller than the Sport Quattro turbocharger)
With the RS2 turbocharger, we can safely make 27psi before it tapers to 19 (!!!)
these numbers would have been considered astronomically unsafe back then
And the RS2 turbo is still a sleeve bearing turbo, not even ball bearing!

I dunno... the 6R4 had some massive arches

probably the most radical car of the GrB era

that and the Delta S4... but I always liked the 6R4 more. Glorious noise they made

God I can't leave this thread alone! Ok, one more, the Opel Manta 400. Why this car is relavent to your interests, besides the fact that Jimmy Mcrae raced one:

      2410cc Fuel Injected Cosworth engine (Road). 144bhp (106kW) at 5,200rpm, 155lbft (210Nm) at 3,800rpm
      2410cc Twin Carb Cosworth engine (Rally). 275bhp at 7,200rpm 220lbft (300Nm) at 5,200rpm
High Lift Cam with Solid Lifters
      Sports Distributor
Recaro seats with Opel Sport Cloth Trim
      Irmscher Leather steering wheel (option)
      400 Graphics
Irmscher full Rally body kit (optional)
      Four Halogen Headlamps
      Manta 400 rear spoiler
      Green tinted glass
      Opening rear quarter windows
      Stainless Steel Sports Exhaust
The Manta 400 was the most significantly different model available during the eighties. It was built around the general Manta bodyshell but several modifications were made to improve roadholding .
The 400 first became available late in the life of the 'Pre facelift' Manta. Some very early 400's can be found with the 'two slot' front panel, although the majority were built after 1981 and featured the new 4 slot front end. Very few Right hand drive 'road' models exist, they were mostly imported to the UK for rallying purposes. The 1982 FIA regulations required a manufacturer to produce 200 examples in order to homologate a car for group B rallying. Manta 400's were built between 1981 and 1984 totalling 245 road cars.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM8w-b9wqD4
Many people incorrectly believe that the Manta 400 is a mass of huge wheel arches, rear spoilers, etc. The bodykit was actually an option which, if required, was fitted by Irmscher. Otherwise it looked the same as a GT/E coupe or even a pre face-lift Manta B coupe.
The car was available in any colour as long as it was white or silver. The Manta 400 Interior, in Road trim, followed on with the traditional Irmscher theme using Recaro seats with the same black 'Opel Sport' cloth as featured in the other models. The standard coupe bodystyle was changed significantly with the addition of integral flared arches and extended front spoiler. Larger wheels were fitted to fill out the wheel arches.
Some road models were produced without the wheel arch extensions, which made the initial outline very similar to a standard GT/E. Only at the traffic lights did the differences become apprarent !
It was in the Rally stages that the Manta 400 was perhaps at its best. Some of the worlds best known drivers during the eighties, sat behind the wheel of a 400. The rivalry between Jimmy McRae and Russel Brookes kept many enthusiasts enthralled for several seasons. McRae driving the AC Delco and Brookes the Andrews Heat for Hire 400. The Manta 400 made its competition debut in 1983, at the Tour of Corsica Rally.
It should be blatently apparent if you ever come across a Manta 400, although they are extremely rare nowadays. The twin cam engine and the independant rear suspension should be proof enough of an original.
