    Thread: Aussie Vortex MK1 thread.

Arno's old running gear from his 4door green MKI Tim. The guy bought the green MKI off him a few years back and moved the gear over to this current body.

This thing was pumping out around 115KW'ish from memory. Best thing was you could switch the SC off anytime you like and just run it normally.

.............you guys............too much money and looking for old shet.

Buy my one............and get a spray job and it would be pretty neat.

Why do you want to sell yours anyway Will! Keep it. You will regret it if you sell.

With regards to the QLD car, are you saying it is pretty good mechanically? Why did he move the car to this new body?

Wayne, it may not be a MK1, but check out the MK2 GTI in Canberra http://www.drive.com.au/used-c...&pt=1

I'm a little over the box shape.................had a dab with the zed which open my eyes to other things. It's not that big a deal as the mrs has a decent newer car. That's why I haven't put it on carsales.

I'm not asking a cheap price either considering I've put in $12K roughly to get to where it is in mods/engineering/wiring/rego. That doesn't include what the body is worth (e.g 2-3K). You never get your mod money back but I'm after $9K...........if I never get that offer it'll continue to be modded because it'll be boring otherwise . With cams and an LSD there would be huge potential and HUGE stress fractures

For what it is I think it's fair as it's kinda neat and has done a 1:14:81 around wakie which is only 4 tenths off a MKVI on st tyres. I'm sure I can hit high 12's with it.

It takes a crap load of time to build a car so it's just a pain free way to an MKI .

Ppl might be worried that I track it but I tell ya if you've got a 9a or another 16V motor that hasn't been rebuilt I personally think it's at higher risk than a later model 2L ABF. .

or maybe an LS will never be worth that much despite the mods.

I've had a young bloke offer me $8K cash over the last week and I still didn't sell up...........just wanted to explain for anyone thinking about it out there

Ok as for the SC one your looking at, from memory it had issues with the SC bracket. As it's not a standard unit (from a toyota crown) it built up stress fractures or came loose......something like that. (Arno explain if your trolling this )

Number one rule with modded cars is that if the mod isn't a factory item expect complications or continual monitoring of the set up. e.g adding turbos or SC.

Combined experience from a group of friends who have done many engine conversions has come to this conclusion .

The green 4door had an awsesome body, we suspect that he changed it over just to have a 2door car.

I think that I am going to have a look at getting a 16V ECU to replace the 8V one in the car longer term. Where should I be best looking for such a thing? Will, you have moved from factory ECU, is there an advantage?

more tuneability I guess...........once I get cams in. I've heard the DigiIII had an inbuilt imobiliser which was dificult to overcome unless your running the whole harness..........im no wiring expert. The set up of my car was done by Peter Shelley CVWC. $2.5K

Anything particular about the running of your car to make you consider a 16ecu?

Lets go for a zip when your car is on the road........or come out this Sunday to Oran park.

Wayne. FFS before you do ANYTHING else car related buy a factory unit somewhere. That way you have somewhere to keep your broken down Mk1 that you can't get running right and I have somewhere to do a dodgy respray on the 65 Ford Galaxy I want to buy.

Lima and Floody, thanks for the Mk2 suggestion. But only poofs buy 5 door Mk2 GTIs.

Paul D, our family have a factory warehouse in Bayswater. I will use that one day for all my junk such as the Mk1.

I think its high time I piped up.... That is all...

But actually - Wayne, I just checked in the dictionary for the definition of fickle, and there was your photo... You were keen on an old skooler when I was in Melbourne at the GP. Since then, you have wasted valuable bandwidth with innumerable, occasionally ludicrous, suggestions of cars you are thinking of buying. I am concerned your mind is too unoccupied. Come up to Canberra and help me write my reports or my job apps or something useful.

The adventure starts with me having to catch a train from central to campbelltown to begin, and collect the kids from daycare by 6.

5 hours of excitement tension and anxiety. I'll keep you informed!

I'd agree Will. Awsome fun car.

Mine had the exact same ding right smack in the middle of the front bumper.

I did have both headlight covers though for a few years, until someone smashed one with a beer bottle, then it went downhill from there.

I look from time to time at them for sale online, just the adds, don't drive and see the cars, but they are either very expensive or total rust buckets.

Awesome arches! $30k is a bit to pay for that though. If it was $20k I would have considered it...

I haven't raced South before, misses all the best bits of the track Pretty sure Sunday is the South Circuit, least it was last time I checked. Bout 50-60 seconds and you're doing very well, sports sedans and super tourers get around in 40-45 seconds.
