Ya know... I'm gonna go out there and say it; they probably look tits on mkv / mkvi sitting low on coils and w/some big brakes hiding back there.

Wow! I think we have a winner for worst looking VW wheels ever made.

Previous title holder - the VW "Orlando" MKIII wheel.

the rims are beautiful.....but damn $500 for two rims, good luck getting buyers, not many people have $2000 and extra change for tires......

What is the weight of one of these and are they forged? I wish VW had an 18x8 esp for a wheel that is dubbed as a motorsport wheel.

Thanks for the post JC and the intro price. Look forward to some more details

For what it's worth, 18x7.5" is great for those wanting to stay in STS class for SCCA solo. I realize that's a point lost on most here but it's a valid use of the narrower wheel width. I suspect this is why the Enkei RPF-1 was released with the same width.

keep in mind that these wheels have probably been through a lot more testing and r&d than cheaper aftermarket wheels

STX allows for an 9in wide wheel on 2 wheel drive cars. which is where the mk5 gti is classed.

as for the wheels..$2k is alot of money. tirerack.com lists ASA AR1s at 23lbs and they are 18x8 and $160 each.

Right, and STS doesn't (but should allow the Rabbit to be more competitive):

      STS:
      3.1 liters and under.
No turbos except as listed in rule book (VW 1.8 turbo, Audi A4 turbo, Mazda 323, Volvo S40/V40)
No mechanical LSD (OEM viscous OK)
      Max wheel width 7.5 inches
      Max tire width 225.

i understand. im just saying the gti runs in STX. i have seen alot more gtis at autocross events then rabbits. probably 10:1

    23. 10-11-2009 01:24 PM #23
too bad rabbits are H stock competitors, and could probably take down the 3's and minis at a national event.

I haven't seen a GTI -or- a Rabbit competing out here, so .

Given the requirements I posted above, why couldn't the GTI run in STS? Is it just because the rules haven't been updated?

Looks like the wheels that were on a Scirroco when I was at the Nurburgring a couple weeks ago. They were made by RIAL

in my area im the only regualr GTI, but there has been about 6-8 other mk5s and a handful of mk4s.

the GTI is in STX because of the turbo. Its way under powered and over weight now that the RX8 and mustang GT are in STX. not to mention the herd of WRXs that hsow up at every event.

i want to pick up an NA maita to beat on.

They're the spec wheel for the GTI Cup in Japan; that image is from the Japanese VW accessory catalog. Part number J1K VR1 A01. 19lbs and STS friendly... if I could just get a set.
