Does not support cars with Monsoon and OnStar.
So, of no use to mk4 R32's?

Does not support cars with Monsoon and OnStar.I was confused by this though. Our cars have Monsoon, no? Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

no it works on cars with Monsoon, it does not work on cars that are Monsoon + Onstar which are very very far and few between. It will work mint on a mk4 .:R, we will be installing Patryk's into his mk4 .:R next week.![]()

Great "stock" look and a much better alternative for those with the crappy old stock deck. Bluetooth too, very cool.

must watch this one. please post pics in operation, and impressions. Looks very oem plus style.

There most certainly should be...that's what the little button on the top left looks like its for... the button with the music symbol. I've never seen ANY Volkswagen factory radio that didn't have an equalizer. I can't wait for this radio to come in tomorrow... to check it out. I might have to wait an extra day for the adapter tho...unless Jeff can come thru for me

Question...I know there is USB and AUX in support but wonder about ipod integration via aftermarket/OEM ipod adapters that are our there?Edit: Whats sound quality like compared to the current R32 double radio? (I still havent coded my radio for the Jetta Wagon setting so I'm curious)

you can use the oem ipod adapter no problem so i would assume that an aftermarket one would be no issue also.

Thank you for the post! This sort of OEM look is exactly what I've been looking for...
-Does anyone know if this radio is currently offered as the OEM radio in any North American VWs? (If so, which models/years)
Looking forward to the install guide/review

it does not come standard in any of the cars in the 50 states, not sure about Canada though. We just installed the radio into Patryks .:R with the adapter harness and it only took 15 minutes.![]()

yes it has all the same equalizer options as a stock vw head unit but they don't have knobs anymore it is electronic by using the button on the top left corner with a music note on it.

Just wondering: if the trunk-mounted CD changer isn't supported by this H/U, why does it have buttons labeled 1 - 6?

ok here we go with a quick DIY, install will take about 15-20 minutes for cars with premium 6 radios that require a wiring harness adapter and antenna adapter. This is the wiring harness adapter
This is the antenna adapter
Their is a white zip tie holding a bundle of wires together in the wiring harness, Their are a few extra wires in their we want to remove because we don't need them so cut the zip tie off. The wires we are removing are for cars with factory installed phones and factory installed navigation. Remove the white/blue wire, brown/red, and blue/black and then re-zip tie the harness back together
Removed wires
Now you are left with 2 wires left loose on the harness that are aimed towards the black 8 pin connector. Push the yellow locking tab out of the black connector so you can insert the 2 wires. Insert the all red wire into labeled position 4 on the black connector, this wire is for switched power. Insert the red/white wire into labeled position 7 on the black connector and reinsert the yellow locking tab into the black connector to lock them in. Now you are ready to plug the harness into the back of the new radio.
Some pics of the new radio
Next you want to remove the factory radio.
Plug the new antenna adapter into the old wire
Now plug the new adapter harness connector into the original connector that plugged into the factory wiring harness, you will also have 2 loose wires on the new harness that will be all red and grey/blue. Remove the under dash cover and run the 2 wires down from the radio hole in the dash to the floor by the gas pedal.
now tuck the connector and antenna wire back into the dash and push the new radio into the dashboard to lock it into place
Now run the 2 wires by the gas pedal up under the dash and towards the headlamp switch, push the knob in on the headlamp switch and twist to release it from the dashboard. Now push the tab to release the connector from the headlamp switch. We wanted to scotch tap the wires for a quick install. Tap the grey/blue wire into the illumination wire on the headlamp switch connector, the wire you want to tap is blue/white.
Now take the all red wire and tap that into the black/white wire on the same connector. This is for switched ignition. The black/white wire comes direct from the ignition switch and is on a 15amp fuse so you are good to go. (if you feel better about it you can go direct to the ignition switch but it is more work for no reason)
Slide the harness back into the headlamp switch hole in the dashboard and reconnect the headlamp switch and remount the under dash cover and your install is complete!!!
Enjoy your radio!!!

I'm pretty sure the Ipod/Iphone is compatible with the USB port. My buddy's SI has a USB adapter and it works perfectly with the Ipod.
#32
Does this have satelite radio ability?
#33
Looks very good. So this is an official VW radio ?Something to look out for when my OEM navi dies, I miss iphone/ipod connectivity badly on that

Wow, that looks really nice. Where can we get the "extra parts" required to install this into a mk4 double din monsoon? I found the part numbers on ECS but it doesn't say anything about them. I want to make sure i get the right parts if/when i decide to buy this.

That looks just like the OEM Navi harness adaptor.
Can this adaptor be used on the OEM Navi?
The aftermarket sources are hit-or-miss.--Chuck--
