You have to remember this is a factory radio from a Canadian vehicle, its original design was not to be added as a vehicle accessory.

This may have already been answered...

I currently have a Phatnoise installed (the primary reason for ordering the Volk-L )- I know it has to be removed prior to installing the Volk-L headunit, but is there anything special I need to do/be aware of aside from unistalling the Phatbox?

Also, I have an aftermarked amp/subs running off the stock stereo via a LOC - will this cause me any trouble with the new headunit? I assume the amp and subs will be transparent in the headunit swap, but want to make sure I account for everything before I do it.

Just unplug the phatbox and no further action is needed

your aftermarket stuff will stay hooked up just like the factory radio.

Quick question - I don't see a blue/black wire in the ISO adapter... was this removed prior to shipment? I see the brown/red wire, and the blue/white wire was loose in the package. Before I remove anything from either harness, I want to ensure that the wire colors have not changed or something.

I set the harness up for you, you don't need to do anything but plug it all in and tap the 2 wires to the headlight switch.

Thanks, that helped. I found the three wires you removed - they were hiding in the bag

    Here's my summary so far:

Ordered on Monday, delivered on Friday. Ordering was a breeze - I'll definitely do business with Douglas VW again

The install was straight forward, and took about a half hour. It actually took me a bit longer, because I had to uninstall the Phatnoise system. Also, once the new radio was installed, I lost function of my aftermarket amp and subs. I forgot that I had the remote wire tapped into the CD changer harness (which is disabled with the new radio). After tapping an alternate remote source, all is well again. So, had I not had the sub and amp hiccup, there would have been zero install issues. I only mention this because I recall numerous people using the changer harness as a source for the amp remote source, and should be considered by anyone running an aftermarket amp setup that way and considering this head unit.

The sound quality is greatly improved over the standard premium 6 Monsoon. I've noticed the minimum volume level is fairly loud, but not intolerable. I haven't yet used the Bluetooth, but so far the Aux and USB functions work quite well. Although, I'm gonna have to rethink my naming conventions for my mp3 libraries to more efficiently navigate them.

Even having not yet tested the Bluetooth, I must say this was worth the wait (I've been pondering it for over a year), and worth every penny. Having the improved sound quality, up-to-date tech features all in an OEM package is exactly what I've been looking for.

I have to admit that the aesthetics are much more appealing than I anticipated as well. I questioned the trim, but it actually looks pretty good!

The only real drawback I've encountered thus far is the display is considerably smaller (I'm used to the double din display), and a bit difficult to see while driving. I'm sure I'll get accommodated eventually.

I've done some reading and it looks like the USB port isn't designed to charge devises. I have an iphone 4s and I know the unit needs 1.2 A to charge.

Is there a safe way route the power from the 12v power source in the ashtray?

    Thanks again!

After a couple months of familiarizing myself with this thing I admit I'm even happier now than I was when I first got it! The Bluetooth is fantastic, and overall improvements over the stock Monsoon are beyond explanation. I'm finding it plays VERY well with my HTC EVO 4G LTE as well. The Car app on the EVO makes getting in and out of the car throughtout the day with the phone a breeze, as it immediately reconnects the the radio and even picks up playing wherever it left off as soon as I turn on the radio.

    Problem here.
My girlfriend received this radio from the dealer but we never had the user manual. The bluetooth stereo works fine when paired with my Iphone 4s (stereo music and handfree phone) but not with her Iphone 4s. The radio is able to pair the phone but
    1. when I play mp3 on the phone it uses the Iphone speakers and when I switch input on the radio unit the iphone stops the playback (major wtf ). There is also a MP3 STOP message on the radio.
    2. when I receive a call, I can't select the bluetooth menu in the Iphone even if the phone is detected by the radio. I can only use the iphone's speakers.

I compared the settings in her Iphone with mine and I didn't notice anything different.

    Thanks for your time

Did she buy the radio from me? If so she should have got an email with the PDF manual.

If she didn't tell her to contact me via email again.

If 1 phone works as designed and another phone doesn't the issue is deff in the phone.. the problem is figuring out what the issue is.

What ever happened with the Monsoon vs. non-Monsoon thing? I read through the thread but didn't see any results from that. I have a single din, Monsoon head unit but not the entire Monsoon system. My stock head unit was replaced under warranty and I ended up with the Monsoon version. It worked exactly the same so I just kept it. The only difference is that it says "Monsoon" when it is powered up.
Just wondering if this unit would work in a setup like mine. If not, would it work if I added an amp or is there other wiring involved with the Monsoon?

It should work no problem in a non monsoon car. Only car it doesn't work in is Monsoon + onstar.
