Has anyone installed their yet? I got mine and installed it this weekend. The bluetooth stereo stream is VERY LOW QUALITY. Much less than that of the radio or cd player. It sounds like an mp3 encoded at a bit rate of something lower than 128 kpbs. All the highs and lows are cut off making it sound like the speakers are blown. Can anyone confirm this? I am using an iPhone 3GS.

Try a friends iphone/ipod or something else bluetooth, it should not sound bad. If your friends stuff sounds the same way contact whoever sold you the radio maybe their is something wrong with it.

      Where are you streaming from?
I streamed from Pandora and it sounded fine...volume is a little bit lower then the radio tho...but it did not sound too bad. Also remember streaming audio is ALWAYS lower quality. I don't have any music stored on my iPhone... so i don't know what quality regular music files are.... have not tried that yet.

Pandora is not a good source to test the sound quality since it is already fairly low bit rate. Try using a modern day mp3/aac file of a least 192kpbs (what I am using) and turn the volume up a bit. Let me know what you find.

It's ashame you lose the functionality of the trunk CD changer w/ this.
Otherwise it would be very tempting!

The factory trunk CD connects to that small blue plug on Euro radios with CD changer.
The same wires are in the Quadlock connector, just in a different shaped plug.
Its the blue plug that goes with the yellow and green plugs at the top in the picture of the back of the unit.
......thats if the functionality of the unit still works for an additional CD player.

But don't you think that you more than make up for it with the ability to play music through a
flash drive / iPod / iPhone, connected directly in the face of the head unit?

I honestly think so. I have a flash drive that i got from a buddy of mine that has 2GB of storage on it. Compared to CD's...2GB with mp3 files...i can load about 400 songs vs 20 songs on a CD. I hate having CD's in my car anyways...so unorganized.

Guys this thread is freakin' awesome.
I need to send this to my buddies with Mk4's.
What would a dealer normally charge for a double din install?
Also, .:R32's have Monsoon, don't they? Isn't this radio amplified? Does it over drive the Monsoon amp?
Thanks again for posting this up. I think the original thread went up in April, and been watching / trolling until this one.

I tested an iPod Touch, with the same result. The sound is very distorted. The most noticeable to the human ear is snare and high hat hits. Can any one else confirm the poor sound quality via Bluetooth A2DP???????

what is the throughput of Bluethooth transfer? I can't imagine it being ideal for quality music.
Especially MP3 being generally, poorer quality.

I'm pretty sure the Ipod/Iphone is compatible with the USB port. My buddy's SI has a USB adapter and it works perfectly with the Ipod.

and what does your buddy's SI have anything to with a VAG unit? the USB port does not work with the iPod/iPhone. the only way to get audio is either through the aux or bluetooth or OEM iPod cable (not yet confirmed). so check your facts first before you say anything.

You're right that it's not a VAG unit. However it is a new radio and most new radio's for any brand can connect the iPod/iPhone through the USB port. It's a little lame on VAG's part if this radio doesn't have that functionality.

The next question is whether or not there will be a similar "Volk-L" Nav +
Bluetooth in the near future. Surely some of the Canadian cars, as well as
those south of the border, have or will have Nav, no?

Not 100% sure on install cost that is handle in a different department maybe pat can answer that, The radio is not amplified it uses the original amp that is why it only works in cars that are monsoon.

i heard about this radio about a year before it showed up, as for the nav option so at this point i would say it is not gonna happen any time soon if ever.

Oh, thats fine. I wasn't being difficult.
I was simply pointing out that people are whinging unecessarily, because bluetooth is not ideal for music (except maybe portable audio).
