in what car, i am not in SC yet but i have done a few swaps will be there in dec/jan

We just took my wifes Cabrio off the road. It developed a coolant leak last year, then blew the head gasket. Fixed the blown h/g put it back on the road then it developed a cooling issue(gauge works intermittently)which in turns causes the car to run hot. Just tired of chasing issues on this motor. So we are debating a Vr6 swap or rebuildig the 2 liter and put a turbo on it, but if we went the turbo route would still have to chase down all these issues. I'm ordering VAG-COM this week, I need it it for the GLi also so it works out. The biggest issue in this is she wants to keep the auto trans. So no matter what I do I have to rebuild a trans to hold up to one or the other.

yea a vr6 swap in a 3.5 cabrio keeping it a auto is going to be a PITA. you would have to find a mk4 vr6 auto car to take everything from. dont know about the laws in SC but most places its illegal to put a older motor in a newer car.

I know the engine, management and trans ould have to be from a mkIV, but the accesory drive and subfrmae woiuld have to be from a mkIII. That's why I've debated just doing the turbo, or a S/C. This going to be a PITA either way. I'm thinking about doing the turbo, either way the car is staying off the road while this all being figured out and finished.

well just adding turbo or S/C will be fairly easy I would worry about how long the auto trans will hold up with a turbo, the S/c will be easier on the trans but still not the best thing for a it. I dont know if anyone has any upgraded parts for the auto trans.

I've been talking to Import Performance Transmission out of Wayne, NJ. They have a bunch of upgrades for the 01M. I'm thinking about sending the trans to them for a rebuild.

You can bring it to my house and do it.

I missed this the other day - I may have to take you up on this. I don't have the springs yet, but will most likely get the VW Driver Gear springs soon.

Sam, would never do red wheels on my car, but somehow, I like it with the silver paint. I say keep em the way they are!

Maybe we need to put together something for that weekend. It's been a while since I've seen everybody.

Let us know what day is best for you and we'll see who can make it out for some eats.

look for houses in Irmo one of the safest columbia neighboring towns... I live in coatesworth subdivision lots of houses for sale right now, or murraywood where chad lives also quite a few houses for sale, basically we want more people on our side of town so we have more leverage for meet up locations!!!!!

If you have school age children I would stay out of SouthEast Columbia. I would look in NE Columbia, Blythewood, Elgin, Lugoff and Camden. I live in Blythewood and commuted to shaw for almost three years. It only took me abot 45 minutes and that is the farthest community from Shaw that I listed.

I second that. That's not the best side of town even without the school situation figured in. It's worth a little extra drive to stick with the Northeast or Irmo areas.

You just have to be very picky about where you live over there, and own a couple guns.

easy way to check... see if the brake lights are on when the car is on but you are not pushing the brakes.

    2010 VW JSW TDI
    10-31-2009 01:01 PM #103
Hey everyone -- first post on this thread. I'm still somewhat new to Columbia -- moved here in February 09. I just sold my G35x and picked up a 2010 JSW TDI from Wray -- it actually came from Ray Ellis in Hotlanta... Here's a bad pick:

Anyway -- ordering some H&R Sport springs this weekend and need to find somewhere local to get them installed. I will obviously need to get aligned after so if I can get both done at the same place, that would be ideal. Any recommendations??? Also ordering new 18s for it but still undecided on those -- looking at Raderwerks and VMRs. Likely will be going with a black or gunmetal rim... Stay tuned!

Hope to get to meet some people soon. Have a great weekend!

    Mike

There is a great alignment shop on Two Notch, it's all they do. I don't remember the name, but I can show you where it is. I know that's bad but I suck with names.

A&T next door to Audi. I highly recommend them. I used to send them ALL of the Porsche alignements when I worked for McDaniel's Porsche. They were the only ones who gould get a Cayenne right and that didn't have issues with non-standard setups on 911 track cars. To top it off, they are cheaper than most places in town.
