All:I have been searching for any motor oil that is certified for use in my '10 JSW TDI. According to the owner's manual (and maintenance book), 5W30 motor oil meeting VW certification/standard 507.00 is all that may be used.
I have checked most all the "big box" retailers in my area, as well as many FLAPS (Friendly Local Auto Parts Stores), and no one has heard of any oil that has this certification.
Has anyone ever been able to find such motor oil for one of VW's "Clean Diesel" cars?

That list is 2 years old, it has as 507-compliant oils:

I work in a VW parts department...The particular oil you need is Castrol (SLX?) in the gold bottle. SLX is only sold through dealerships as far as I know. Not certain on the compatability of other brands. The Castrol gold bottle (and black SLX for previous models) have a corresponding VW part number for them. I'd have to get it next time I'm at the dealer...

Yes, that would be the Castrol SLX Professional LL03 5W-30. From feels_road's list above (which you must not have read), and ecstuning's link in the 2nd post (which you must not have clicked on).If the other oils weren't compatible, VW wouldn't have approved them. In other words, if they meet the stringent 507.00 spec, then they meet the spec.
A VW part number might be a useful contribution...

Thanks to all, for your input.From the looks of things, I guess a run to the dealer to pick up a liter or two of the Castrol product. I like to keep oil on hand, in case the car needs some added between changes (which are free for the first three years on the 2010s).

Like said above you have 3/36 free maintenace, worry about it in three years. unless you wanna stock pile while oil is cheap![]()

10,000 miles is a long way between changes. It's also completely reasonable that the car is going to burn a little extra oil until the rings fully seat, so afor you.
I think there should be more of a campaign amongst both sales people and service people to encourage new owners to have some extra on hand and check in between. The assumption shouldn't be that just because the service is covered for 3/36, the owner has no responsibility whatsoever. (Of course how many 'typical' Americans don't even know how to pop the hood...)

Don't know if this is silly or not, (and kinda off topic) but I was seriously considering changing mine at 5000, 15000, 25000, combined with the dealer service for free at 10k, 20k, and 30k for free.I havn't been able to find correct rated oil at my local stores either. I wonder what dealer gets for a case of 6.

Do not change it early. Not only is there no point in doing so, but you may end up doing more hard than good. Read this thread completely. It says everything I would have, but saves me the typing.http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=44824
After 10K you could change it twice as often if you want, but honestly? The return on investment probably isn't worth it. The new oil and filters are designed to go 10K, there isn't any compelling reason not to trust VW on this.
At risk of sounding like a hypocrite, I've changed my Mk4 TDI's oil in as little as 6K-8K between (even though it too calls for 10K) but a.) it's also an older technology with an older oil, and b.) I'm anal about maintenance.

Many TDI owners (including myself) have found Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 which is a 507.00 oil at Pep Boys for $6.99/liter.
