Thread: The what have you bought today thread (for Way)

yeah it was a little bit more that we were originally planning on spending, but it needs NOTHING done, and we both loved it as soon as we walked in. Going to sell seaford and dump all the $$ into the mortgage on the new place, with the exception of some we'll keep aside to replace all of our furniture with stuff that suits the new place. Most importantly, I've got a reasonable budget for a good audio system for that front room (with the fireplace).

Mick, go check out my mate's website krsipykables.com
He stocks some very good stuff and will do you close to wholesale prices as you're a mate.

there's also some pics from the last time it was up for sale, so before it was refurbished a bit (though they've kept the character of the house really well)

Thanks for the links Micky. It's a shame they painted the timber in that skylight thingy and the old orange splashback mosaics in the kitchen were very cool.

I thought the same on both counts - though I don't know that I could have lived with an orange kitchen. I like the fact that they've kept things like the pelmet lighting, and the wood panelling on some of the walls.

Is it bad that I like the before pics better than the after pics?

Oh and I looked on a map to see the locations of the old and new suburbs. Fark, your life will change dramatically moving so much closer to the city

  7. 07-15-2012 05:06 AM #2737
yeah, current trip to work is about 50km's or so, and can take 90 minutes on a **** day. The trip home is 45ish minutes in clear traffic, but we had one night a couple of weeks ago when it was nearly 3 hours

New trip is ~17k each way.

Wow MickyD, that is just completely awesome! I am very envious! I would so totally settle for something like that if I ever move back to the burbs. I don't like big places so that is ideal! Maybe next time you want to upgrade i will buy it from you. Well done mate, very well done.

Which part of North Balwyn is it? Only problem is that Eastern can be a real pain in the mornings, and if you go through Kew/Richmond it's a pain as well.

nice character in that place; good warmth

another vote for krispykables, cameron is a top bloke and goes well out of his way to help.
what are your requirements in a system?
    cd's?
    vinyl?
    streaming?

  15. 07-16-2012 12:44 AM #2745
    probably 90% streaming, 5% CD's, 5% radio.
Airplay capability would be a bonus, or at the least, an optical input for an AppleTV/AirportExpress. I've got a reasonable collection of 24/96 FLAC's, so compatibility with that is important.
I've been looking at the Pro-Ject Box stuff, which looks interesting.

Squeezebox touch is a great way to get started on good quality 24/96 streaming.
You can pay a lot more and Cameron has gone down the same path as well, so will be able to impart great advice along those lines.

Bought Cathy a new camera for her b'day today as the Fuji x100 has proved to be a point and shoot flop.

    1x Sony Cyber-shot (DSC-HX20V)

Super duper zoom point and shoot. She's been moaning about the lack of zoom so I went for the longest, decent compact zoom i could find. Tossed a coin between this and the panny. Will see how it works for her in Oct. As she's off for a fortnight in New York with the girls.. All media presenters too.. I suspect what happens in new York should stay in New York.

Bought a new Mitsubishi ASX 2WD 2.0 manual, Silver, optioned with the Luxury pack (Leather, heated seats, reverse camera/sensors, bluetooth voice activation etc etc..)

Really nice car for the money, managed to haggle the dealers down to 28k OTR and got a $1000 eftpos card thrown in for good measure.

    Looks like this

    Yes, a Japanese Peugeot.

Engine sharing too as the TDI is from Peugeot.

Drove a loan 4008 for 10,000km - was ok but wouldn't buy one for the money.

I think that given the ASX is 26k driveaway for the base model, and the Pug is a fair bit more than that (admittedly with more fruit), the value proposition for the Pug is a bit of a stretch.

From my first few drives, the ASX is a surprisingly good piece of kit. Whether this continues into the future is unknown, but it feels good at the moment.

The luxo pack helps to make it a nice car, esp. the leather. It really improves the interior ambience. I had a loan base model for a few days for a test drive, and the interior felt very cheap.

Next purchase should be a remote meat thermometer and a roasting trivet. There are even thermos that work with iPhones now.
"excessive chassis yaw" is a $176 fine.

Just bought a SqueezeBox Touch. Was about to get one from Amazon last night ($250+$15 shipping), but JB had them for $277.
Wanted to grab one before they disappear, since Logitech has dropped the SB line now.
