    ^ farking nutter.

Had a pair of BE-20's though - very nice.

  3. 04-22-2012 08:52 AM #1158
i hope to one day be that mad.

i had a stall at the record fair in glebe yesterday - very glad that nobody purchased my 180g copy of moussorgsky's 'pictures at an exhibition'! listening to it now, is very nice!

how are thew valves coming along on breaking in?

  4. 04-22-2012 09:08 AM #1159
I have about 300 hours on them now, and they sound superb. Best amps I have heard to date.

  5. 04-22-2012 09:50 AM #1160
    nice!
    what's next on the agenda?

Yeah, Monocle XL's are sold, though I have been using Nordost Heimdall speaker cables largely with the Living Voice. I have some silver Kondo speaker wire arriving today for demo actually. I have Kondo LPz IC's and really rate them. At $5k a meter I was really sceptical, and was determined to prove they were an over priced rip off when I demo'd them at home. I was wrong.

$5k for a cable? That's more than my speakers!

I've got a bridge you might be interested in...

cables can cost up to 10 x that amount, per unit.

cables can make a real difference. at your level it's just a matter of tuning.

  10. 04-23-2012 08:40 AM #1165
Yeah - some gear is crazy $$. Heard a 1m long pair of $44k interconnects recently.

I have the Kondo SPz speaker cables in the system - makes my Nordost Heimdall's sound very poor in comparison.

  11. 04-23-2012 08:48 AM #1166
i don't really like nordorst - tried the valhalla on my phono stage and wasn't very impressed. i find silver cable a little too bright and thin sounding.. i end up with some tricon analog cable from synergistic; nice and warm, full-bodied sound.
kondo is made by audio note, right?

  12. 04-23-2012 09:01 AM #1167
Kondo is Audio Note in Japan, not Audio Note in the UK.

I am not usually a big fan of much silver, for the reason you mentioned. That said, I am a big fan of this Kondo annealed silver. Much nicer detail than Cu but with body and weight.

  13. 04-24-2012 05:38 AM #1168
yeah japan is the original audio note.
you into tt's or just digital?

Who bought Beyer DT1350s a little while ago??

I have heard a few $100k+ turntables, and too be honest other than with a few
lp's, I don't get what the fuss is all about.

  16. 04-24-2012 07:51 AM #1171
which $100k turntables have you heard?
    continuum caliburn?
    rockport sirius?
    clearaudio statement?

analog is hard to get right - need to finely match the tt, arm, cart, phonostage, cables and stand.
digital is much more easier to get good sound. when analog is done right, the difference is just in the warmth of it. it definitely has more air than digital, but you're correct in that it also depends on the lp. recording and condition plays a major role. if you don't own many lp's it's not really worth the hassle though.

  17. 04-24-2012 08:03 AM #1172
Best ones I have heard are, Goldmunf Ref, Continuum, top of the range Basis and a much cheaper (relatively) but still very nice 47 Labs.

Have you heard any high end digital?

  18. 04-24-2012 08:16 AM #1173
not lately. just all the usual suspects from the old days of yesteryear 44.1
levinson, krell, cec, sonic frontier, classe, wadia etc.
haven't heard the latest players like dcs, msb, weiss. ears need updating in that respect.

They are good, better than HD25s sonically, but not enough for me to upgrade from them.
Jaben Audio in Melbourne has them too. If you like balanced sound, none of that bass biased crap, then you won't be disappointed.

Sold all my vintage hifi kit (Yamaha, marantz) and currently selling Mordaunt Short MS10's.

Bought new Ugly Cables interconnects, and moving my rear speakers (Krix Brix) to the study as there's limited space - will replace the rears with some Equinox or KDX or whatever's easily available.

Turned my sub back on after 5 years of living in an apartment - its nice to have < 30Hz again

EDIT: Anyone know where to get foam pads for Sennheiser's?

Probably my favourite suite of music. I'd love to hear it performed live at some stage. We played a shortened version of it in the band I was in when I was still playing (clarinet & sax), and I've had a soft spot for it ever since.

Anyone got a small desk top amp to drive those John Blues that SKC sold me some time ago? I fired my King Rex's up today to see some blue wisps of smoke coming about the back of them.

Get one of the Bel Canto amps with the USB DAC. I'm sure you could find a second hand S300iu if you looked hard enough. They are quite small, and will never ever break.
