Thread: So, did you ride today? (Details!)

  1. 01-06-2010 09:10 PM #36
New years day I took out the Scott CR1 and logged 10 miles in 10degF weather and fell down once due to black ice on the roads

  2. 01-06-2010 09:58 PM #37
Took out my brand new Cannondale CAAD 9. Only did 10 mi, but hey I have to start somewhere. It was sunny and 60 degrees.
p.s. I just bought it yesterday and yes the wheel reflectors are already gone. New pics tomorrow I promise

Went out for the first ride since getting back from Japan... 14 miles on the CX bike, just trying to get myself back after not riding hard for a whole month!

(Photo: A segment of bike path that I have always thought was super-cool)

Pics of bikes and riding IN Japan will get their own post, I think...

Hit the trails for a couple hours this evening, again on the single speed. I swapped the alloy bars out for some carbon risers I had sitting in the closet. It made the rigid fork a bit more friendly. I also powered up a grade that I hadn't yet been able to master on the single speed. I'm sticking almost exclusively to this bike for the winter and the results are starting to show.

Rode to work this morning, ~23 miles, just below freezing (30/31'), took 1 1/2 hours, first ride in probably two months, first ride on the old Trek in probably 3 years, I put my lights and pedals on it late last night

2 hours in the dark last night on the cross bike. 38 when I left...31 when I rolled in.
Mid-30s in the sun is waaaay different than in the dark!

55 degrees when I left the house today! Almost had to wear arm warmers with my vest. took off vest as we climbed Glendora Mtn, but had to put it back on down the front side. 4500ft climbing, 72 miles, 4 hrs. SoCal riding is hard in Jan.

Eh, I took the night off from riding tonight and went out for Indian food.

Matt says he might be too busy to ride on Saturday, which means he definitely won't drag himself out. I'm up for a longer ride, so lets do Tamarancho AND Pine mountain, and of course, down Repack to The Gestalt Haus

My buddy hauled me out early for an "extended commute" into work today. Ended up at 20 miles over a few hills (normal route is under 10 miles). Feeling the effects of being off the pace on the bike for a month, I used up all my juice keeping up with him. That is, until the steepest pitch where I walked away from him. Either I'm a natural climber, or I was just filled with resolve by his unkind words about Avatar moments prior to the climb.

Foggy start, before the real fun.

4 hours in the snow in the woods on the single speed. Was part of a harmless 5 person pile up on a sheet of ice

Did the last 80km of the '08 Tour of Flanders this morning on the turbo. 90 minutes+ of SST with a 5x5s tossed in for a little variety. The puddle of sweat of the floor was pretty deep!

25 degrees here this morning...to cold for my blood, but it was a balmy 50 in my building for my 60 minute effort @ 90%. last 50km of 08 Fleche di the trick this morning!

You know you went hard when your sweat makes the dried mud drip off the bottom bracket!

Yesterday I rode out the conclusion of the Surf City Cyclocross series with a modicum of dignity, securing my title as the third-fastest slow guy for the whole series. After being off the bike for a month I had no expectation of being fast, and started in the back of the pack, but managed to move up to 6th before the race was out.

Afterwards, I stuck around to cheer on my teammate in her race, then watched some guy named "Tim Johnson" show up and blow the field apart in the Elite race.

    badass

I did 15 miles on the trainer today. I wish I had studded tires.

1h30 on the trainer. LT and VO2max workout = lots of unpleasantness. Last year I sweated so much on the trainer that I had to replace the bottom bracket on my bike.

Ill vouch for that. Great fun especially my face plant after losing the front end over that super muddy, wet, ultra-rooty section.

75km in 2:30 this morning. Decent spin for the legs...
Then I built furniture for 2 hours...that should count as cross training!

building furniture has a 50 TSS

40 mile group ride today. Easy spin (for me) but put the hurt on the holiday slackers

I spent some time tonight assembling Ikea puzzles as well. The TSS may be reasonable, but the IF is too low for my liking.

Thankfully I had a chance to spend a few hours at the velodrome earlier today. It certainly makes for a nice break from the "other" indoor riding.
