fyi.. you don't upgrade cecm firmware.. you have to buy the whole cecm computer that sits under your dash.

yeah.. I'm not a huge fan of this look. I was more looking to change things up for a bit, and I got these for an ok deal. I like having options.. I still have my chrome grilles as well.

Besides, now when I go back to the Golf GT/R-Line grilles I'll love them even more

For those folks already running these headlights..any recommendations?
Yeah, I am going for the R20s as well. Please let me know what bulbs and ballasts you get. My dealership has quoted me $160 ea for the bulbs and $318 each for the ballasts. I am looking at about $1000 to finish my headlights out. UGH!! I really can't wait to get everything in. Getting really antsy to get this year's projects done.

I don't believe that is true... For the LED HID's the CECM needed to have a certain firmware version. IIRC it could be flashed to that version if you had an older version.

For the price of those aftermarkets + bulbs/ballasts it's not much more expensive to grab the OEMs from OEM+.

Well, if you don't include the CECM anyway.

Party true. You need a highline cecm, which no US JSW will have from the factory. So you're buying a new cecm for sure. Now if you have a highline that didn't have the firmware for the LEDs, you can get it flashed to work properly with the cecm.

No it was all the way true, he said that CECM firmware can not be upgraded. If he had said you can't upgrade a lowline CECM to a highline CECM with firmware he would have been correct, and maybe that is what he meant? But yes, all US JSW's have a lowline CECM

Yeah, I read it as him saying you can't upgrade a lowline.

Realistically, it's going to run about $2k to get it done oem. So it's about double the cost of the replicas.

While I wouldn't have done replicas on my car, I am glad that a manufacturer stepped up with a good looking design for the replica/aftermarket market. Considering what most aftermarket lights look like...halo lights...spaceship looking reflectors, etc., it would be painful to have to look at a bunch of ugly lights being put on such great looking cars.

What is rally nice about these replicas is that you don't need to upgrade the CECM. ECS has a set of the R20 housings, but they cost about $500 more than the replicas. I will say though that I am not real happy that they are made in China. I am going to make the investment in the replicas though. I just hope I will be happy with them for a long time to come. I have heard good things from a couple other people on here that I trust, so...

I was referring to upgrading to a highline cecm..

dunno.. with mk5's people just tried to get the latest revision possible, if it was needed, when buying a cecm.

Someone who has a highline CECM with HID's but wants to swap out to the LED DRL's would need to update their CECM firmware not buy a whole new CECM... so CECM's can be firmware upgraded to new versions, however you can't make a lowline or midline CECM into a highline with a firmware upgrade.

Wish they had the push button start option when I purchased my car. Who's wants to do that mod/retrofit and what would it require?

Why would you spend the $$$ to put OEM bulbs/ballasts in replica housings, or am I missing something here? You can get an aftermarket kit for like $150 AFAIK. So the reps should come in well under $1K to get them working. This post looks like you are planning to buy the housings ($600-$700) and then spend another $1000 on top??

I'm still undecided on the LED look, myself. Would love HIDs for that $$$, though.

I hear you. I was only going through my dealership because I didn't know any better. UKjeeper21 actually found a great site that he turned me on to, and I just ordered a D2H kit this morning: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...oducts_id=3961

I was undecided on the LED look myself, but I think it is definitely growing on me after looking at timmiller and nikhsub1's cars. By mid-March, my car is going to look totally different.

Good deal. I was trying to simultaneously help you out and confirm this for myself, too. It's good to know that option is out there. If I wasn't planning a wedding I'd probably have jumped on those lights already. As it stands now, I have to at least pretend like I am agonizing over decisions like this for a while.

Congrats on getting married. I am trying to get my projects for this year done before going out to look for a new house. As it looks now, I will be able to accomplish that sooner than I thought.

      Congrats on getting married.
I myself asked my GF to marry me a couple weeks ago.
So not only is she trying to get this whole thing going and over with planning, but i have to pretend to budget buying stuff for the JSW, haha.

Only issue is im doing the OEM xenon head lights with out LED's but taking the " working at a dealer" cost idea and trying to get it under $1500 but its looking more like $2k. I agree with Pay to Play, it just sucks some times.
Only good thing that might come soon is my damn tax refund, I am banking on that since I bought a house haha.
      Bunch of stuff.

      Congrats !!!
Since we are looking to but a JSW soon quick question about those updating your lights OEM only.
Are you adding the auto level system?
After adding the HID's to my tdi now I know the auto level is necessary because when you are driving down hill the light output is stock on the ground.
I just came back from Mexico and Its nice to see the JSW with bixenon and auto level from factory.

Anyway going back to my question Did you add it or you are having the same light issue pointing down too.

rick happen to have the part number on the correct one?

My tinted one came in a month early last week and I finally got around to checking it over the weekend, sure enough its the clear one not the tinted one. Paul that used to work here is now working for ECS so he is trying to figure it out for me but they said this is the only one they have sold in the past and thought it was right like oem plus did.

OEM plus lists the 1k9 945 095 plain for both the 09 and the 2010+

ECS only has 2010+ listed as 1k9 945 095C which is here in my lap as a clear one.

If anyone has the number we can maybe get this sorted and people can stock the right ones

I haven't installed the auto-level. I'd like to at some point. That being said, I haven't had any trouble with the level of my lights.

sweet thanks, I just pulled my stock light so we could make sure what they found wasn't the US light without the fog and the part number sticker is completely shriveled I can't read it but seems to be G maybe.

The backing part that is actually molded plastic has 4 different part numbers at least on it since that would apply to multiple versions and has nothing to do with the reflectors so it says like H, G, And some others.

The correct tinted one is molded in black on the back, the non-tinted is molded in red.

      fantastic!

yeah the C that I have is red backed which is the clear w/ rear fog, the G?? that I have stock is the well um stock one tinted w/o fog.

So for people googling or searching the forums in the future the proper 2010+ tinted with rear fog:
