Was pulled over three times within 2hrs for no front plate. In a six month span I must have been stopped at least a dozen times for that and the tinted cover on the rear. Usually it was just a warning. Finally a Trooper gave me a $124 ticket or prove that it was installed within 48hrs. Currently running the GoMiniGo tow mount and have been very pleased. Do like it better without but was just getting to be too much wasted time.
Now they stop me for my tint being too dark (which it's not 24% is state law), saying that tinted tails are illegal (which they aren't, have to emit a red light not be red), saying my white LED licence plate lights are too bright (seriously, WTF, I'm trying to help you see it better), and whatever other BS they think they know. When I start citing the RCW they tend to back off but still steal time out of my life. Figure they just like my car but a simple wave would be preferred.

Man, this discussion has me loving Nova Scotia more and more. We don't require front plates here.
Only thing I worry about is my tinted front windows. But no one has bothered me yet.

Man I hate the look of a front plateFlorida has had the suggestion on the ballot before, but decided to hit everyone with an impact fee instead. Then about 5 years ago they doubled the price of registrations, but we still have it easier than most states no emissions for us they did it years ago but in typical Florida fashion the entire system was corrupt.

Do you act or look like a punk? They really don't like that, but they can be quite nice. This one time I was high on meth I'd found on a hooker I'd run over. I got pulled over because when I hit her the blood splatter "tinted" my lights according to the cop (which is apparently illegal.) So while trippin' and trying to figure out if I was talking to a pigeon or a human police officer, I decided to play it safe and use courteous language and offered an immediate resolution to un-tint my lights. It turns out the pigeon was really cool and gave me a verbal warning and I was on my way.![]()

I had my run-ins with WSP on missing front plate (it really had fallen off) and tinted rear plate cover. Most times I wasn't cited, but one time Mr. WSP was a prick with his attitude and I finally decided to return the attitude. I was going to get a ticket so I was like WTF, why not. Ironically, that was the last time I got pulled over in Washington too!

I drive about 60K a year so I put myself out there way more than most. Basically five times more than the average driver so have gotten pretty used to multiplying everything by that figure. Five times more oil changes, five times more tire rotations, and hassled by the cops five times more than most. To be fair, the three times in two hours was up on the peninsula between Sequim and Port Townsend. There is nothing up that way and I can pretty much guarantee they knew I wasn't local. Town has a rep for this kind of thing.
Will say I do become a bit of a smart ass when they hassle me on petty stuff like this though. They 48hr fix it ticket came about after I asked "Would be legal to put it on and then installed a push bar in front to cover it back up...like your car has." That didn't go over well. Window tint stop: "I do believe my tint is 25% officer. The state law allows up to 24%. By my math I am within compliance by 1%. What did you come up with?" Tinted tails: "I would be glad to change my tail lights if you can show me where in the RCW it states that the lens has to in fact be red. It is possible to see them illuminated from 1000ft and the light emitted is red so I if I am reading it correctly then I am within compliance. On the other hand, if you are correct, can you please tell me the exact shade of red they need to be? Red can be a pretty vague description. The lens is red underneath. How tinted can they be before I am illegal? The 2010 model come tinted stock...is that legal?" Granted I should just be polite and let it slide but when you know that they are just stopping for probable cause and nothing else then it gets frustrating. A few buddies of mine are in law enforcement and they tell me to put some soccer mom stickers on the back and my worries will be over but I can't bring myself to do it.

Picking up my wagon tomorrow and want to do a few things right way.
Want to order an aluminum pedal kit, euro center console, euro switch, fog light kit, and lower center grill.
Whats the best place to order all this stuff for the best price. Must be OEM stuff, not aftermarket.
Looks like ECS is out of euro switches and they have the center grill for $160. I thought it was less than $100?

now that you mention the area where you've been messed with the most.. it makes sense. The one guy that has pulled me over for the no front plate was in that area.. and I've been told by an EMS friend in the area who knows almost everyone that the guy has the most no front plate tickets in the state. I'm not surprised.
I also have to explain to people how my 30+ k miles a year means that I'm going to see more cops than most people. Even so, I've only been hassled about my lack of a front plate once in 3.5 years.
it might make you feel better to know that I am always polite.. although I rarely give the officer a 'complete' response to their questions. I haven't been let off of a ticket in many years. But then.. my record probably doesn't help..

Try my approach. Rarely do I actually get written up for the violation. More hassle than anything. Last officer that pulled me over for my tinted tails, I pulled up the RCW code while he was running my info and read it to him. Then asked if he agreed that as it never stated the lens had to be red if he was incorrect in pulling me over. Told to leave. Asked again on the grounds that I wanted to be sure that I was correctly reading the code to avoid future incidents. Told me he couldn't answer and again asked to leave. Requested the name of the person who could answer. Told that he was "Trying to be nice and letting me go without a ticket. What was my problem?" Replied with "I thought we just established that I was within compliance of the law? What are you going to write me up for?" He walked back to his cruiser and I drove off. Funny thing is since then I have been officer free. Think he put note under my plate number that says: "Modifications Legal. Driver is a smart ass thirty something. Don't bother."

Well the 2.0T's are definitely stock the 1.8t's I have no clue as I just started hanging with them. Will get back up with the 1.8t's this Thurs. and see The one Audi is a 1.8T BTW. Im really thinking of the Frontside High Pressure EGR Delete now since I just have to drive to NN to get flashed. My parents are right down the road and I can do the surgery there.

I'm not a fan of ECS and I refuse to buy from them as I feel they dont care about their customers at all. Keffer VW has it for $120 + shipping (was about $10 to cali for this and my oem chrome exhaust tips) and they got it out ASAP with no hassles.
I've worked at 2 different online retailers and to me customer service is a huge priority. In that department, ECS just does not deliver...

I got pulled over for some thing stupid i was doing, not speeding, just lost my cool. But anyways got pulled over by off duty. record is almost clean(got pulled day after i got my licence coming over a hill, 50 in a 45 lol) anyways other then that nothing. he chatted me up about this and that and what i was doing, named dropped because i didnt want a ticket and i have 2 freinds on the force. Officer gave me a BOLO, be on the look out. so now it is forever on my plate/name/car/life i guess. no more stupid driving for me. not worth it.
im sure some one on here has heard that ECS got their system broken into and got some customer info stolen. I got my debit card number stolen and 2 purchases were made in FL and europe. Chase caught it right away and called me. But had to get a new card and stuff. Got a letter last week about what happened in the mail from ECS. sounded kinda iffy and although it happened a while back, not too long, but a while. they were having problems for a 4 day time span. im sure someone else might have this happened to them. my friend at work who is on GolfMKVI forum siad similar posts. I really have not had any issues from them ever, and i live kinda close so shipping is quick, the debit card issue kinda sucked. so not sure if ill order from them any more.
Bunch of stuff.

I keep my plate bracket in the trunk and just say that I just picked up the bracket and heading home to install it.
I work for the City and do all the IT work in all the cruisers so I know all the local cops and they generally just overlook my car thankfully.
quick crappy picture of the race car and the daily.

Thanks for the info on that one, but unfortunately it has nothing to do with the reason I wont support them. Basically, if I'm putting together a rather large order (lets say $2k+) with a credit card number ready to fly, and you go back on your word about about a price you quoted for me, of course I'm going to have to walk. Believe me, I would've loved to have everything come from the same vendor (even though in reality it doesnt come at the same time since most products are drop shipped), but after talking to many of the reps who either wouldnt call me back, or would make no effort to right the situation, I had to walk. ECS is a major player in the tuning scene and I feel they've instilled in their employees the value that "if he doesnt buy, xxx others will today, so dont worry about it."
When I started getting into tuning cars, we had a thing called shop loyalty - you'd go to your local shop and buy all your parts and have your build done there (and you even got a sticker!) but now with online retailers, everyone just wants to nickle and dime and find their set of coilovers for $.08 less than the other guy. I would've been loyal to ECS, but they just werent willing to work with me to start that relationship in the first place.

Modder beware: The R20 front bumper does not match the lip on the wheel, so the front sides won't match or you have to but 2 Golf GTI side metal sheets and resolver them, and adapt them since the A pillar its 3 mm different and the gap looks terrible. The best way to do it is to cut the new golf parts and solder to the back part of the original JSW a pillar area. then repaint adjust and there you are.... now you may not care that the lip doesn't match....so...
But it looks awesome...![]()
My Beetle is a chick car and my wagon is a mom´s car. But I really don´t care about stereotypes.

The fender/bumper mismatch on the flat curve does not bother me at all... I would rather have that then mess with fenders - I would mod the bumper before I touched the fenders but personally I would leave it mismatched as I'm OK with it.

If you're gonna spend all the $$ on the Golf R bumper in the first place, you might as well do it right and make sure your panel gaps are all correct. You may not care about it now, but it will stare you right in the face everyday...
I'll be keeping my stock JSW bumper personally. Shave the markers and license plate holes and call it a day.

The lines look ok in that shot but the paint doesn't match. That would be a bigger issue for me. But damn, that looks baller.

you can actually see that the fender lines don't match up in that photo

The VW silver does not lay well on plastic, my stock bumper looks exactly the same next to the metal fenders. Everyday walking back from getting the mail here at the office I think for a split second my bumper was resprayed..
In different light you wouldn't notice a difference.
I still haven't seen enough of a misfitment issue with the Golf R bumper on the JSW that would make me not want it.
