Thread: Post Your Hi-Def Setup!

  1. 01-20-2010 06:25 PM #36
Does anyone know for certain if the Hi-Def kit comes with or without the chrome "slats" in the grill? I've seen it both with and without and can't seem to find the answer.

    Thanks!

I don't think it comes with either (correct me if I'm wrong). I think it just uses the grille you already have.

This car would be amazing with a drop. Spend $200 and get some springs. Will make a world of difference.

Really? I kind of like it, especially the all-white front end. The rear I don't really like no matter what color... too squared off or something.

Has anyone started a forum as to how many OE installs of the Hi-Def, vs those who have added, to get an idea of a total number?

Good question. I'm guessing a Hi-Def B6 is one of the rarest saloons around, mainly because of the sticker shock of the kit when buying new from a VW dealer. But getting a used one with it already installed is basically free, and dealers on here are willing to make it "relatively" affordable.

Can some Photoshop guru make the fog light grills on this image that are currently united gray matte black? Thanks!

Thanks! Just what I was looking for. I think I dig it.

My only issue with the two-tone is that the gray of the Hi-Def grill area is the only area of the car that would be gray... making me think the single-tone black is a better choice. But then maybe that's too black... don't want to play night-rider...

I didnt kno they made a badgeless Hi-Def???

After much time staring at various Hi-Def setups, and as another poster indicated previously, I don't think the Hi-Def kit includes the actual grill/emblem - so you can use whatever you have/want, including badge-less.

Correct, the stock grill will be reused. However, with the badgless grill it is most likely a custom fab, and I can tell you 100% the one sold with will not work on this bumper without modification/hacking. Not sure what kind of grill the one is in the first pic.

So here are the three together; stock, black side grills, and blacked out:

Hi-Def or "R-GT" kit in motion! Here is a German video I found on Google Video of the Hi-Def/R-GT kit:

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure the hi-def bumper is one piece and has the center section built in, so you'd have to do some tricky modification to get the brushed aluminum R36 grill to fit.

Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side.

I have also wondered this. Does anyone know if it would work as a replacement grill?

(And yes, tmtuning will only sell the grill with the aluminum bumper part. I already asked them.)

So then no other grill would fit with these tabs? (sorry - bad cell phone pic)

I'd love the R36 grill (or a badgeless grill) since my original grill was damaged, so I'm looking for a replacement. I popped it back into place since the picture above but would like a new one.

All - the lighter color is part of the bumper. The only grill that can be replaced is the part with the VW emblem on it.

Since badgless grills are replacing the entire grill section on a stock bumper, you have to fab and modify the badgless grill to fit behind the HiDef bumper.

The R36 grill has the VW badge!!! If only we could find the grill without the bumper

correct, and you can probably disconnect the 'rib' part of the grill with the emblem. If so, you can use it. However, spending that much $$ on a R36 Grill just for the inside is not in my budget...LOL...I believe OEMpl.us sells the R36 grill.

And honestly, if you only got that part of it, it would really look like you went through all that effort to get a Jetta 2.5 grill - they look identical.

So to confirm, when you buy the Hi-Def front bumper, the "V" section painted in dark gray is part of the bumper but the cutout where the VW emblem and chrome strakes are DOES NOT come with the Hi-Def - meaning you re-use whatever you currently have (or can get your hands on) - correct?
