If I had a way to measure the temps, I would do it.
There's already a gap of around a 1/4 inch between the coil pack and the timing cover to allow air to pass between the two but the insulating plate should also help reduce radiated heat. Hey, for $35 shipped, its a nice, simple and painless add-on.

    nice....
I also have been using home made washers out of phenolic material to slow heat transfer and add more of an air gap...maybe an entire heat sheild would be better?

To be honest, we haven't had a 12v in the shop at all this summer. I sold my own MK3, so no cars around to check for summer temps.

Can you tell me how think the spacer is because I have custom length plug wires and I am not sure if they will reach with the spacer attached. Its a tight fit now.

I have this spacer on my 12V Turbo. Nice fit with the new bolts that comes with the kit. 7 year old Beru coilpack and mk4 12V cabels. Up to 30 psi boost. No issues.

Our VR6 coil insulators are now available with black oxide hardware. Stainless steel hardware is and will remain optional.

I was thinking along the same line, couldn't we just use four bolts to space it from sitting flush? Bolts are not as pretty and I grinded my coil pack's aluminum case to make space for the ford coil pack.
You can get a smooth, quiet, floaty car and fall asleep waiting to get from point A to B, or enjoy getting there.
To be good at racing, you have to change your name to Sebastien.
