Some basic questions as I am new to have a engine chipped or retuned!!

If I were to get this tune installed is there way to turn off when take in for service? The ad talks about different programs but not clear if you can go back to stock factory tune.

Could there be any issues with my VW warrantee on motor/drive train?

What if any gas mileage changes for general highway driving? Hoefully 10MPG increase!!

      Thanks,

      BT.

      Yes.

We have two features for this.

One is STOCK mode, which is a 100% exact stock copy of your original calibration. In stock mode, everything is identical. Everything runs the way it did because you're using the same calibration the car came with from the factory.

Second feature is security lockout. This is a password protected feature that allows you to lock the car into a mode, such as stock mode, to make it completely invisible from the dealership.

Most tell us they get a couple MPG's more.

Just spoke to GMP performance and they got their stuff yesterday. I'll be taking my Tig there tomorrow morning. They have a 2010 GTI in the shop now that's getting flashed. I can't wait!

So, if your Tiguan ever needed an ECU flash from the dealer would that erase this?

Correct. VW updates their software from time to time, often for good reason! We'll apply the VW changes to our software so you can reflash at any time. We do not charge you to get re flashed.

Is there any issue with the software on a 4motion equipped vehicle as compared to a FWD Tiguan?

Well I attempted to have the APR software installed on my Tig today and it turned out to be unsuccessful. Apparantely, APR has not seen my ECU before and therefore, the program was not available. GMP Performance tried everything they could; the removed the ECU from the car, uploaded the code and sent it to APR but APR said they would not have it for my car until next week. So, 8 hours later and 3/4 tank full of gas, I'm back home with no software. Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper. Not sure why they would tell me on here as well as their customer support team, that the software was available. I could have stayed home and kept another 300 miles off my Tig. Thanks APR!

Definitely sorry to hear about this.

There is one way to verify if we have your ECU version ready or not. You'll need to plug in with vag-com and grab the hardware/software versions and revision number. Then you can call us up to see if we have it or not. If we don't have the file, typically the process will go smoothly and we'll have the file ready within an hour.

We must take a look at the version of ECU you have and compare it to the versions we have. This includes verifying the differences and changes between every byte in a 2mb file. Every now and then we'll run into a file that is slightly different. Usually it's not different in terms of the calibration but rather the way one of the tables was scaled. In that case, we'll have to bring in the mechanical engineers to determine if the changes we make and resale will work properly on the new ECU. We do this so you don't simply try something out, have it not work, and then need to return on another trip.

What you must understand is that VW has revision after revision after revision of their own ECU's. On top of that they have version after version of each ECU. It's impossible for us to have every single ECU on our own or know what ECU's and versions are in existence.

Bottom line, this was an unfortunate situation. I'm terribly sorry we did not have the code ready for your specific ECU.

      -Arin

      Arin,

I definitely understand about ever changing revisions to ECUs. They are made for a reason. I guess my problem is that we were expecting the 1 to 2 hour turnaround and instead, they said it would take up to a week for it to be ready. Why advertise if you cannot make it happen? My ECU ended in DN and they said they've never seen that before. I know GMP uploaded my ECU tables to your server, and it took 2 hours for an answer which was, sorry, but we cannot have it for you today, end of next week. Thanks. Needless to say, I think I'm looking for other routes of tuning. I like GMP but I'm not happy with the way things happened.

I've had my truck programmed, I was surprised by the cost to "install" though. I understand the process of pulling the ecu and all takes some time but the $100 surprise when I went to checkout sucked.

Otherwise the truck is awesome with the 93 program..

If I've indicated an hour turn around time, I must apologize. Usually small items in the past would only take a small bit of time. An example would be porting valet over to an ecu that did not already have it.

In the case of a brand new ECU that we have not seen, it actually takes much longer. I was unaware of this and I apologize. I'm told now that in those cases it may take a couple days.

Again, I apologize for any miscommunications. This is my error.

No problem; the sales rep spoke with the sales manager at APR and they said that my ECU has been loaded into the server so I'm good to go. I just wish things could have been handled better.

Getting tuned on Monday. Debating on getting the stage 1 and 2 intake at the same time.

The intake setup is the next biggest bang for the buck after the chip in my opinion. I'm actually getting ready to run a prototype setup on my k04 FSI using the TSI parts.

I think I am going to have to order a 2010 Tig, can I pay the 599 now for the software and have it installed when my car arrives? Will there be any problem with a Tig that is that new?

      thanks~

I would make sure that the ecu is loaded on their server. That's the issue I had. That's all. Mine has 5400 on the clock because it was a demo but the sales rep at GMP performance said that APR stands behind their product, so no worries here.

      2010 Tiguan Track&Fun 4Motion
      02-17-2010 02:13 AM #24
Arin, I just bought a 2010 Tiguan Track & Fun 4Motion (similar to the US SE 4Motion version) in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

My closest APR dealer in Mexico is located in Culiacan, Sinaloa at 728 miles SE from my city.

So, in reality my CLOSEST dealer is Group 5 Motorsport in San Diego, California at only 125 miles NW from my city (a 2 hour trip).

Do you have the programming available for my Tig?

if so, can I take advantage of this North American offer?

I sent an e-mail to Group 5 Motorsport and got a reply from Troy, the owner, on Monday morning telling me that a highly trained associate was looking into my request, if this rings a bell.

Jetta, the only way to know if APR has your software on their server is to know what the last 2 digits are on your ECU. I'd say with the software now being available for a few weeks, it's a good possibility that it is available. Every Tiguan that my authorized dealer has done had the same ECU as me. I guess my issue I had the first time, is helping the Tiguan community.

2010Tig is pretty right on that one. The only way for us to know is to know the Soft Box code and the Software versions.

Check out this tutorial if you have Vag-Com:

      http://www.goapr.com/support/boxcode.php

You do have another option which is to send your ECU to us. If you do that, we'll be able to get you the software.

      Arin, 2010Tig, et al:

BAD NEWS AT THE APR DEALER TODAY. The APR technician opened up my 2010 Tiguan hood to get access to the ECU, and then he stopped at the anti-tamper bolts. After much examination, he refused to go any further because the slot-free bolts would then leave tracks for VW to see.

He advised me that I should not remap my 2010 Tig at this time, and then he reassembled the ECU housing.

I was heartbroken, but I absolutely respect his integrity in not proceeding with an uncertain service.

Have any of you talked with your GoAPR technician about the tamper-free bolts? What was your resolution?

Replace them with brand new tamper-free bolts after the install.

Arin is right on about this one. I made sure my authorized dealer had the new bolts in stock before moving forward. They said they had the last ones in the country. Even VW can't get them in stock right now.

Maybe you should have gotten a RAV-4; that seems to be more your speed

the anti tamper bolts new for 2010? this is the first I've heard of them

Yes, the anti-tamper bolts are very new for VW. The APR techie is a longtime veteran of tuning Vdubs, and he said that my 2010 Tig was his first ever experience of the anti-tamper bolts. I've emailed him a link to this thread, and he's going to try to find some Vdub replacement bolts so he can remap my Tig later this spring.

AND AS FOR THE RAV 4: Toyota went a stole the Tiguan shape! Here is a spy photo of the 2011 Euro-spec Rav 4.

Damn Toyota nose is lifted right from the Tiguan!
