Thinking about picking an iPad up. I'm considering a 32gb iPad 2 or a 16bg New iPad.

What I'm wondering is that if the New iPad is really that much better than the 2...

I don't have a new iPad, but in specs alone I think you are better off with the new one. My 2 has been acting slow recently.

The new ones I was playing around with at the store are crazy fast compared to the iPad 1 I briefly had when those first came out.

I picked up a refurb iPad 2 this month and I have no regrets.

Best Buy has them side by side, so you can try both before you make a decision.

I'm sure the iPad2 is still fine, but you are future-proofing your purchase a bit with the New iPad. Depends on if that's worth the price difference to you, especially bearing in mind the iPad2 still has good resale value.

Does anybody know where I can get a cheap 30 pin to hdmi adapter? I'm going to be traveling a lot in a few weeks and I'd like to pick one up.

when it comes to video cables, i'd recommend you go OEM apple. any other off brand, you'll likely get compatibility issues. i have the official HDMI adapter and it works perfectly fine. and if you're jailbroken, you should download display out so you can play from sources like HBO GO that don't support HDMI out on the iphone.

    Thanks
I figured that would probably be the case. I'll probably pick one up soon. Forgot that I would be taking my MBP, which will obviously hold more movies so I'm going to use that for now. I know you said stick to oem for the video stuff, but I ended up buying a cheap mini display port to hdmi adapter with eBay bucks that I had. If it doesn't work, no big deal.

for sure. the 30-pin proprietary thing is picky.

you're safe using a cheap displayport->HDMI cable on your macbook. i bought a $5 cable from meritline for my lenovo notebook and it works perfect.

Ditto. I was in the same boat. Traveling to lots of hotels and wanting to play videos on the TV instead of renting movies for $15. The Apple cable is MUCH higher quality than the rest of the options out there. Peace of mind is a small price to pay some times.

    Hey guys

I'm thinking of picking up an Ipad 3 32GB. The only thing holding me back is Itunes on Windows. I used to have it back when I had an Ipod 3rd gen and it was pretty bad.

Has it become better and less intrusive? Does it still index music files and create folders full of converted files? Is there a way to disable that if it does?

    Thanks for your help!

Yes, and yes it can be disabled. In fact I'm 98% sure you've always been able to disable that.

    true.

i'm a windows 7 user and i just let itunes organize the music now. i just pop in the artist/album tags if i need to. as far as i'm concerned, if it looks organized on itunes, it'll look organized on my iphone and ipad. i don't look at my Music folder anymore. it might freak me out.

Yeah I'm too OCD to do that

I found the perfect solution : I'm going to install Itunes on an old laptop I barely use anymore. Case closed.

Why bother with iTunes? I've had my iPad 3 since launch day and it has never seen iTunes.

Any opinions on the best ruggedized case for iPad? I use mine in the field and this smart cover isn't cutting it. I can get a big discount on the otter box but the griffin survivor looks tougher. Plus my iPhone otter box has completely sheit the bed on me.

If I may ask, how do you load content from your PC onto it?

I haven't had to, but if I did I'd use the cloud.

You can load a lot of stuff through programs like GoodReader. You won't be able to get stuff into the native apps, like Music, but it works well for documents or a smallish number of videos. Honestly though, iTunes isn't that bad as a management system - it won't touch your file organization if you don't want it to, and it has recently become much more flexible in that you can manage connected devices from more than one computer.
