I'd imagine in a few years, this one will be perfect fodder for this list:

Huh, the Ibiza and Polo are related but FAR from being a rebadge. The only shared parts would be the dashboard and other interior trim bits, but that's as far as the similarities go.

The 6K platform (Ibiza, Cordoba, Derby and Polo Classic) was meant to be able to use the VW "big block" engines (the slanted engines). The 6N on the Polo/Lupo was meant only to use small block engines and allow for a smaller car.

I know, you cut off the rest of the post where I mentioned the Polo Playa was the rebadge, the regular Polo was just developed off the platform and only similar (as I said in the quoted post)

It shared the rear beam with the Ibiza. The dash is different.

The Ibiza has a Mk3 Golf subframe with MK2 Golf wishbones.

      Just found this out:
The first generation Mercedes-Benz Vito was produced between 1996 and 2003. It is powered either by a diesel engine with up to 120 bhp (89 kW; 122 PS) or a gasoline engine with up to 140 bhp (104 kW; 142 PS) and a front-wheel drive drivetrain. On the top of the petrol engine was Volkswagen 2.8 VR6 engine.

The body chassis came from the Volkswagen Transporter.

This body was also sold as V-klasse in its more luxurious version while Vito was the "work horse" ( V-klasse was replaced with the Viano-name for gen II of Vito)
Seems like it was written by someone using an online translator. I do have confirmation they shared engines but I am curious how related the bodies were. They look sort of similar.

New Hyundai i10 and Accent is sold in Mexico as the Dodge i10 and Attitude, they also keep the Hyundai emblem on.

Mercedes borrowed the T4 chassis and engines from VW (which received the Sprinter in return as Crafter). But it is not a rebadge by definition as Mercedes did its own exterior design (changes are subtle but significant).

The new Vito is RWD so it no longer shares chassis with FWD VW T5

Sir Alec Issigonis, with assistance from PininFarina in Italy, helped bring the Austin American, a front-driver based on his previous original design for the Mini, to the US in the late '60s. It was designed to compete with the very popular VW Beetle, but they were plagued with numerous mechanical problems, rust issues, and were woefully underpowered. Junkyards were littered with many <50,000 mile examples.

To make it even worse, MG, then a sportscar powerhouse in the States, decided to rebadge the thing and import it here concurrently with the American as the MG1100 as both a 4-door and a sedan, one of which I purchased brand-new in '67. Positive ground, puller radiator in the driver's side wheelwell, ribbon speedometer, and enough room in the "trunk," which extended under the rear seat, to stow away a folding card table with the trunk lid closed... lots of strange and neat touches, but still, on a par with the Saab, one the worst new cars I ever owned...

I fixed it one more time after paying he damn thing off at last (the transmission and the engine shared the oil pan, which was a durability nightmare), stuck a bunch of big flower decals on it, and sold it to a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend hippie guy and his perpetually-stoned girlfriend just after I graduated high school... and he mercifully wrecked it a month later, totaling the thing before anything else blew up on it.

^ You can populate a whole thread just on Austin/Morris 1100 rebadges. I think in total, there were some 40 different variations throughout the world. But they are not particularly obscure if you are old enough to remember the 70s when these rust traps were all over the road and/or lived in a British Commonwealth country.

Damn, 3 of the 5 cars they sell in Mexico have Hyundai badges still. That's awful that they couldn't even bother to change them for a Dodge badge.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cars_in_Mexico
It sells several brands as Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Smart, Maybach, Mitsubishi (in partnership) and Hyundai under a "by Dodge" badge. Hyundai has no official representation in Mexico so Hyundai cars are sold under Dodge's badge.

I think we can easily fill this thread with BL cars. They always confuse the heck out of me ... Wolseley ? MG ? Triumph ? Riley ? Rover ? Range Rover ? Land Rover ? Austin ? Mini ? Autin-mini ? Morris ? Morris-mini ? ...

      Why so many brands ?

Not sure if mentioned but I believe the Hyundai Galloper was a rebadged Pajero.

Not too obscure but GM rebadged the Sky/Solstice as a Daewoo G2X for the Korean market.

      Why so many brands ?
First, Mini was never a brand. It's a model name. The cars were always known as Austin Mini or Morris Mini depending on which dealer you got the car from (not unlike Dodge and Plymouth Neon in the US). BMW created the MINI brand out of scratch.

The BL legacy is largely due to British Govt policy of that time. Instead of letting car companies fail, the British Govt keep rescuing them and combining the corpse into ever bigger conglomerate. BL did try to segment the brands into different market tiers but without the budget to actually differentiate the styling, this fooled no one.

The 1950s~70s BMC/BL brand hierarchy is roughly as follows:
      Austin: low price popular brand
      Morris: mid price popular brand
      Wolseley: high price popular brand
      Riley: low price sporty brand
Morris Garages (MG): mid price sporty brand
      Triumph: high price sporty brand
      Rover: mid price upscale brand
      Jaguar: high price upscale brand
      Land Rover: 4x4 brand

In the early 1980s some of the brands were dropped:
      Austin: low price popular brand
Triumph: rebadged Honda Civic (replacing the mid price Morris brand)
      MG: sporty brand
      Rover: big cars
      Jaguar: luxury cars
      Land Rover: 4x4

      By mid 1980s
      Austin: low price popular brand
Rover: rebadged Honda Civic and big cars
      Land Rover: 4x4
(Jaguar was spun off and MG became just a trim level of Austin)

      Early 1990s - BMW ownership
      Rover: popular brand
      Land Rover: 4x4

      2000s - independent again
Rover brand was dropped around 2002 in favor of MG
      (Land Rover sold to Ford)

      2005 - chinese ownership
MG is the last surviving BMC/BL brand

I think that we should remember we are posting obscure rebadges. Rebadges not everybody knows about, like the formosa magnus. The GM volts is the same car under different brands to cover different markets.
