+1 for the cloth alcantara seats, can't wait for the official word....

Really? My 18 year old MK2 Recaros(now my brothers) look awesome after 300k+ miles as do a lot of other's compared to mk3 and Corrado leather with cracked bolsters and deep creases. The material is still good, its usually the foam that wears out. Cloth is awesome, Alcantara is even better.
Quote, originally posted by g60racer » You must have forgotten how ratty cloth Recaros from the Mk2 GTI/GLI's get after only a couple of years of use. The large bolsters start to fall apart at the seams quite literally.
Leather or at least leather bolsters with cloth centers are the only worthwhile option for large bolstered sport seats, for longevity and easy care.

So loadedGOLF R, did you test drive the TTS?I am totally baffled by the fact that you cannot get a TTS with an MT! As much as I love alot of cars out there, without the manual shifting, it's out. To me, this is such a big part of the driving experience. I also do not live in a city and get to actually enjoy driving around in a car that loves to be pushed. I can't imagine living in a congested city and having a performance car. Frustration at its worst.

yeah the tts test drive was great but i wasn't completely in love with it. the practicality of the golf is such a nice thing to have and i really think i'll regret not having it. i really hate that the tt hasn't been updated on the interior. some would argue but i thought that the interior of this car was a bit boring or i'll say it was to cluttered. i'll most likely be getting the golf. the motor was really strong and impressed me throughout the drive.![]()

Jamie. It's nice to have the option of 4dr/2dr and MT/DSG, but what about black wheels and 19 inch rims?

whats wrong with asking if there will be an option for wheels? Its not like loadedR's requests of "They better include 19" wheels as options or I'm not buying!"
I think wheel options are more likely than asking for something like parktronic or recaros being that they're more accessory type add-ons. If they follow Subaru STI type options like "gold rims", black wheels shouldn't be too difficult.
Of course for simplicity sake, they can just make it sunroof.xenon.climatronic all standard, pick 4 door/2 door, pick a transmission, pick Nav with Dynaudio or no Nav, and there you have your american R.

most of the performance oriented enthusiasts will not want the boat anchors that are going to come stock on the car anywho, so why opt for a larger heavier wheel?
#81
i didn't say i wasn't buying. you guys just have a special way of translating what people say, because you guys love to be angry. i've just said VW should step out of the box, or make their own box. this place is like church if you don't agree you don't belong.![]()

nobody has to agree, its just that your a knob when you respond.and you did say you would go with the Golf.. it must be hard to settle no?

yes the customers are going to be "performance oriented", but not to the level where they're scrutinizing weight loss on every little option. The car is a boat anchor to begin with... and, why even include a stereo, auto-climate, nav? If anything, the euro market is more performance minded, and they're still getting 19" inch black wheels as an option.
lets not go overboard here. The car shouldn't be some luxury hog to compete with the option-laden offerings by Audi/porsche/bmw, but it also isn't a minimialistic performance beast for pure track use (Evolution MR, STi-whatever edition). It's for the middle ground (which is the reason why I'm even interested), and exactly how its marketed in Europe. The only changes from the Europe model should be for pricing or DOT regulation related, not to appeal to an overly performance aggresive crowd.
I could honestly care less about getting black 19" wheels. I'm just saying I don't think its a great debate for us customers or for the business. If they bring it "Yay", if they don't, "Ok, whatever."

Oh, be fair. That's not what he said.
I think what he was saying is 'They'd better include 19" wheels made out of platinum with *no* other options in order to make it expensive so that it is exclusive.'

My how things escalate. BTW I think seats are made a little better today than they were back in the 80s & 90s during MK2 times.

Hm. I would like mine to be black, four doors, with the 6 speed manual. If it comes with navi, I'd like that also. Thanks.

There’s more to it than that, though. I feel the fast Golf is a part of me. We’ve grown up together. When it came along, all simple and full of fun, I was living in a flat in London. Now it’s soft and luxurious and I’m slouched in a house in the Cotswolds. It’s like 1970s rock music. New stuff comes along which I’m sure is cleaner and better produced but it doesn’t have the heart and soul of the original.

I will only purchase a 6MT model. Whether it has 2 or 4 doors or nav or a sunroof or leather etc are small details. When I do decide to buy a car with auto/DSG it will be because I can't drive a manual transmission any longer. This is why I still have my 337 and not an R (the original R came out to soon/late).
2011 was when I was planning on getting a new car (my wife has had 2 since 2002) and I hope it is another VW. If it comes DSG only then I will look elsewhere :-( . Sad but true.

1. 6MT
2. 4 door
3. color/seat material
3. keep the options light (the only thing i want is ipod interface. *maybe* heated seats).#1 is the only 100% deal breaker.
of course price could be a deal breaker too!!

I guess that is an issue for car companies....you can't please everyone. I do know that the R is top on my list, but my list has several other options if I can't get what I want in the R.....I am sure many here think the same. All I can say for myself is that if there is an option to have a 6MT instead of a DSG, I will need to find something else that would make me say no thanks. To date I have not seen anything rumored yet to make me say no.
Until it is annouced (hopefull it will be and soon) there is nothing else to do but hope and speculate that VW will come through with the configuration(s) we all want.
#95
The 5dr option is practically a must for those who have a family. VW would do well to offer at least a #of doors and transmission choice after the severely-lacking MkV sales.

I like the way the 4 door breaks up the lines in the back half of the car. I think a big part was the missing window trim on the 2 door at least on the MKV R32.
DSG with 2 door or 4 door will work for me. I prefer 4 doors though due to looks. I must also say I still haven't found a good position for my windows and sunroof to be open where it doesn't bother my ears when driving with the windows down. I never had this issue on my MKIV GLI.
#99
6MT and 4 door are must haves. Candy White or United Gray, load it up with everything. I'm ready for a new car now but am willing to wait.

I guess I'm a purist but the original GTI came with 2 doors and that's good enough for me.

Golf R is not the GTI, so how can you be a purist? Golf Rallye would be more analogous.
