Well its finally time for me to start the project I've been wanting to for literally 5 years+. I bought this GTI off a fellow Vortexer in 2004, swapped the ABA 2.0 engine in 2005 and its probably gone 5,000 miles since then. Mainly been sitting in my various garages over the years collecting dust

My plan since swapping the ABA was to strip the car, respray it and turbo the engine.. finally its time! Just registered the car this week and passed emissions, now its time to tear it apart.

Here are a few older pics of the car when it was my daily driver (2005)

Heres a few pics from this morning, I wanted to get some shots before I started the tear down..

This is the main reason for the respray, the previous owner had the car painted 'Tornado Orange' and I'd like it back to the stock Tornado Red The front fender is the color the car should be!

    More to come shortly...

thanks for all the comments guys

i will be stripping the rest of the car this week and hopefully it will be going to paint later this month.. once i finish taking the car apart I'll be taking the engine apart, rebuilding the head, painting the block/tranny and putting the turbo together

hopefully by the time the car is done paint i'll have everything ready to go back together

plan on a full new black carpet kit from newton commercial, possibly some new seats as well... looking for a mint red stripe dash if anyone has one

haven't decided on wheels yet, the bbs are just rollers i stole from the cabby while its in hibernation for the winter

Took apart most of the interior today:

    Door seals, handles, etc removed:

Started removing the dreaded seam sealer in the engine bay and grinding off unnecessary bolts..

Got the piece in to fix the DMV hack job on my raintray/vin:

Did a bunch of work today on the car.. got the majority of the interior out, tail lights, rear bumper, side skirts etc.. Also did a bunch more cleaning up in the engine bay, got rid of a few unnecessary brackets, power steering hoses and did a lot more seam sealer stripping...

My garage is a complete mess, running out of room, luckily theres not much more to come off the car before it goes out to paint

    Todays progress:

I need to remove the sunroof panel, rear glass and the dash/heater box.. other than that just have to finish up prepping the engine bay then I can get started rebuilding the engine and installing the turbo

This is going to be bloody good once finished! Hopefully all those years waiting will all be worth it.

What car is the ABA engine from, is it out of a mk4?

Injectors are 42# - I think all the Kinetic kits use the same injectors..

Thanks man, I'm very excited for the end results but lots of work to go

ABA engines were in MK3 Golf/Jettas and Cabbys.. my particular one is an OBD1 from a 94.. Mk4 have a 2.0 but its an AEG I think

Actually if you read correctly you'd see I've been accumulating and buying parts for years for this car.

I have new mirrors to go on the car, so no more red mirror bases.. I don't like them either

Yeah I didn't read. I was thinking that after i posted, because you have had the car for so long and the title makes sense. Sorry.

You still never said anything about it really. I must be missing it. Can't wait to see it done, though.
