Got my Pro-ject Debut III. Lovvvvvvvvvvvvve it. Bought it locally and the guy set it up in-store for me and it was the same price as buying online. He recommended a NAD phono pre-amp for me as welll that was cheaper than the one I had been thinking of. Added a pair of Sony MDR-V6 headphones also as I don't have room for speakers in the back room.

Picked up a few lp's lately.

Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Neil Young - Time Fades Away (plays ok but the sleeve is knackered), $3!
    The Notwist - Lichter

Waiting for my new Stephen Malkmus album to show up too.

^ post up some pics of the new deck

What do you think of the sony headphones? They make a decent affordable over the ear headphone, I really like mine. I had some similar ones back in the day, but I've upgraded to the MDR-V700DJ and they have been pretty great for what I use them for.

Also looking forward to the new Malkmus.

I have the same table They are pretty amazing. The acrylic platter upgrade makes it that much more awesome, as the steel platter it comes with is the only thing that detracts from its beauty IMO.

I have been softer on the vinyl purchases this summer, it feels like there hasn't been a lot of great new releases the past few months (or maybe I just haven't been paying as much attention to new music). Stuff I have bought though:

    Yeasayer - All Hour Cymbals
    Beirut - The Rip Tide
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Some Loud Thunder
How to Dress Well - Just Once EP 10"
    Burial - Untrue

    scored some good ones today!

i went to a flea market that was being held in the parking lot of a local large shopping mall.
    Crosby,Stills,Nash & Young--4Way Street (good condition w/ credit/song listing sheet)
Talking Heads-Stop Making Sense-movie soundtrack album(pretty good shape, just a small tear on the cover)
The Patti Smith Group- Easter(looks to be in good shape)
i have yet to clean them,so i don't know the condition of their sound.damn good deal, though~three records for $5

update: after a good washing,i found all of these records to be near-perfect in their sound.hardly a pop or click to be heard on any of them wow!!

i'm seriously considering the purchase of a MusicHall USB-1 turntable.Audio Advisor has free shipping, currently.i like the fact that it has a digital output and a line output for phono preamp and/or cartridge upgradability.generically speaking,it looks like a re-labelled Denon or Technics chassis--still a good, solid unit though, right?

have any of you vinyl fanatics heard anything good (or bad) about this model? i looked around a bit,but all i found were other adverts for it~no real info about it at all.

i currently use a very cheap (but surprisingly pleasant-sounding) Pioneer PL-450 'table.it has the very convenient 'P-mount' style cartridge-i use a very nice Shure cartridge on it.i'm not junking my old unit, but i'd just like to step up to a more substantial, solid 'table.i am on a very tight budget, though.

    thanks for any suggestions

I bought the 45rpm 2 disc remaster of Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. You've heard the songs a million times on the radio but this remaster is like hearing the album for the first time. Really, really, good.

I also found a nice copy of The Who's Live at Leeds in the gatefold sleeve. ALL the inserts were there. And a copy of Rust Never Sleeps on vinyl.

i got my new 'table tonight!
it only took 2.5 days to arrive.shipped Wednesday afternoon and arrived Friday.
i had a buzzing issue that i fixed.the cartridge wires were too close or crossed or something.it all good now
it's my first time mounting a standard cartridge on a tonearm~~it took me a few tries
i bought a really cool Michael Fremer 'How-To' Vinyl Instructional DVD.i'm going to watch it Sunday night or Monday.i'm sure i missed something in my initial set-up.
after a short listening session,i realized i was getting some feedback at high volume so,i used the 'air-pack' plastic packing that came w/ the unit along with a nice, solid thick piece of wood shelving to build an isolation 'plinth' to insulate the turntable from the airbourne and wood floor vibrations.it helped A LOT

here's a couple good photos of my new turntable setup~it required some experimentation to avoid acoustic feedback and to get to stay solidly level.http://www.flickr.com/photos/5228068...in/photostream

omg,i stopped by one of my favorite book/record stores to see what they had. i found 2 awesome re-issues,and one interesting used album.
    1)Tom Waits-The Early Years (180Gram!)
    2)Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Global A Go-Go (2LP's)
3)Reggae Sunsplash 1981-Bob Marley Tribute Concert (used.good to very good condition)
i added them to my Discogs list, and that's when i discovered the Mescaleros album was kind of scarce~1200 copies were pressed.
    i only paid $12ea woo-hoo!

    Hey everybody!

I'm looking for some Prince albums and am having kind of a hard time finding them. Really the one I want is the Kiss single album but parade or even purple rain would do. Does anybody know where I could find these? Or anyone wanna sell theirs?

    hi FreshPaint,
funny you should mention Prince.i just saw that Rhino Records re-issued some of the
Prince catalog.i came across that info when i was 'researching' the new Ramones' re-issues on the site.i see that 'Dirty Mind','Controversy' and '1999' are on the current list..not sure if there are more on the way or not.check out www.rhino.com for more info.

i bought their first 4 albums thursday.
Ramones,Leave Home,Rocket To Russia,Road To Ruin they are all heavy 180gram and sound Magnificent! very well made records, and Rhino's album artwork is top notch
(though, i did have to clean them all several times each;surprisingly dirty for new vinyl )

also~i saw that Rhino is pressing the first Stooges album looks good.i'm going to pick that up as soon as i find it in the stores.

i found an awesome deal on Monster Cable on the Audio Advisor website.they don't advertise it in their catalog, only online.i found it when i was shopping for my new 'table.
    $20 for 60Ft!!
my 15yr old+ generic Crutchfield catalog 14Ga copper speaker wire had had it.it was becoming all oxidized and blackened--it sorta snuck up on me,i hadn't noticed the discoloration before.it took me a good hour or so to strip the new wire and put on the nifty gold-plated Esoteric Audio banana plugs.
i hate messing with my speakers,i have them positioned perfectly in my room.unfortunately, their binding posts are underneath on the bottom of the cabinets ..as well as being some of the cheapest,plastic-y binding posts around.GRrr! (JBL)
ugh... i had to re-position my speakers again.
the new cables sound great.the old ones did too,but after hearing the new ones it's clear that they were taking some of the 'sheen' off of the high frequencies.the vinyl now sounds a little brighter and clearer than before i spun side one of George Harrison-Living In The Material World.wow!

That's one of my favourite albums of the past few years. Really nicely pressed album too and I love the sleeve design.

    -edit-

I've picked up quite a few odds n' ends lately. Some highlights ...

The Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet reissue from '03. Found it in the newly arrived used bin. I can't see how it was ever played.

Tindersticks - The Something Rain. Beautifully presented album. It doesn't play nice with my TT though. Not sure if it's the cartridge or ??

The Beatles - Abbey Road. Capitol Records reissue from '76.

Eric Clapton - 461 Ocean Boulevard. $3 at Goodwill.

found some fun, cool vinyl today at a flea market
    Beach Boys-Little Deuce Coupe (Mono)

Shut Down-a compilation of Hot Rod songs from the '60's (Mono)

    Cream-Best of Cream

..and another copy of GH's All Things Must Pass--it's near mint and it had two album posters in it what a find!

i also have a pending order on Discogs~i will be buying a (1995 reissue) new shrink-wrapped copy of Sgt.Pepper's. i wish i had bought that copy of the 'White Album' when i saw it at BestBuy a couple of years ago (when i picked up my copies of 'Abbey Road').this seller is also asking $125 for those 1995 pressings now, arrghh!! blatant gouging!!

omg,i cancelled my Discogs order.the guy from Texas that i had arranged to buy the record from--he changed the price *two times* AFTER i had placed my order .initially,he wrote to say that the original price had been incorrectly posted on his site,it was supposed to be $69+ shipping, not $64 w/ free shipping..but the first 'price correction' was a compounded mistake, incorrectly listed as $76w/free shipping .i told him,'no.i'm no longer interested.cancel order IMMEDIATELY.
the guy's website clearly states--ALL items over $50 have free shipping. i think the guy was just fishing for the highest bidder or something?? i will never buy records from that dude.if you want to know his name, just PM me and i'll let you know,ok?

I missed Record Store Day this year (first time in three or four years). There were only a few releases I was interested in anyway. I was pretty disappointed that Graveface Records didn't do anything special this year.
