looks nice, how are you liking the trx?

I figured I would start a new thread since the other one was more about my neighbor![]()
Here are some pictures of the progress of the facility:
We are going to paint those benches this weekend, and hopefully also this weekend we're going to have some open face "lockers" installed above the long bench. Also on that wall we are going to mount a basketball hoop. My business partner is big into ball, and wants to provide shooting lessons.
We snagged this white board cheap. It was like 10x4 for $12 at home depot. This is great for writing the workouts, because I usually forget what we're doing half way through.
We're actually selling that adjustable bench in case anyone is interested. We haven't been using it at all.
I invited the neighbor over to check the place out. He was jealous of our structure here. The building itself has these really cheap paper thin steal studs, and he didn't have anyone to build him one of these custom jobs, so I guess he isn't satisfied with his set-up cuz he can't bolt anything to the walls.
There are actually two plyo benches there. One is 18" and the other 24". We built them so the 18 incher fits under the 24. I was thinking about covering the top with grip tape (skateboards) because the natty wood is a tad more slick than I prefer. That half full swiss ball actually has water in it. I'm guessing it weighs about 80lbs. It's like a super-squishy atlas stone.Buckets in the corner weigh 66lbs each. Good for farmers walks, cuz you can stack 35# plates on top.
We've already got 15 guys locked in for the BJJ program. A local catch wreslting school just closed down and the owner told all of his students to come to us. I don't know why...but hey that's cool.

Looking good - just needs some mirrors
Btw, if you want a rack to put all of those big balls on, you should get one of those pvc rack style ones. My gym has one or two for the exercise balls they have and they seem to be light weight and hold 3 rows of balls (3 levels of height)...with 2-3 balls per row (depending on size).Anyway, lookin' good!

Well I haven't been able to really use it because I separated my shoulder January 1st, and I'm still recovering from that. I know there is a lot of crazy **** you can do with it, but so far I just use it for having clients do inverted rows, and push-ups with their feet in it.

We have some mirrors, just haven't installed them yet. We have some more construction to do, so we're waiting for that to finish up so the mirrors don't get all dirty and gross and potentially broken.
Do you think you could find a picture of the rack you are talking about? I'm having a hard time visualizing it.

You should come up to roll Xiao, we've been having good turn outs for our open mat sessions.

That's exactly what I mean.Thanks.
Keeps the balls from rolling all over the place, which is nice.

Cool. I like the idea of a non-chain gym. There is one by my shop that has a bunch of massive tractor tires that they use in the summer.

you should have an h&f pizza party day and give us a tour of the facility and whatnot![]()

Hey I know some of you guys are on facebook. We are trying to get to 1,000 fans on our facebook page by March 1st. If we do we are going to donate $1,000 worth of membership to the annual Fred's Fund auction.

Best of luck to you - looks great so far.And I became a Fan. Too bad you are so far away.

Place looks great!Just curious, why get rid of the bench? Even if you don't use it, I would assume some of your clients would want to.
Also, can you hang a rope in there? How high are the ceilings?

I would rather have room for some more squat stands for when we get our bumper plates.
We have climbing ropes, ceilings are about 20ft.

Some pictures from last night. This was a little bonus at the end of the session.
This thing is really hard to hold on to

Looking nice. I'm really diggin what you got going on. Doesn't look cluttered and yet you have enough equipment for a solid workout. And a cheaper solution for the plyo benches. Latex paint and something clean and rough. I'm sure you have some paint lying around somewhere. Put a fresh coat on and then throw some clean sand at it and then put on another coat. Easy.
#18
i think a bunch of sandbags would be right up your alley?

joined spoolin.hey that NAGA tourney that you mentioned in the FIT post, is that the one at the casino in lincoln rhode island this weekend? i have a buddy that is making a debut this weekend there. Are you going??

We have some blue and orange paint (those are our colors) left over from when we did the bathroom and closet, maybe I'll use that.

Yeah that is the one. I won't be there unfortunately I have to go to my Jiu-Jitsu instructors MMA fight which is the same day. Which sucks because I have a lot of friends that will be at NAGA.

the way i made mine was possible an overkill, but it has held up for a few years now to carries, slams and shouldering. sand goes inside the doggie poop bags, you get those in any dog park or a ziplock. about a pint glass worth of sand in each. ducktape that baggie and put a bunch of them inside thishttp://store.colemans.com/cart...y=USD
than ducktape those and put them inside a military laundry bagyou can get them online or most army/navy stores. this will give you a heavy but smaller bag
you can also just fill up that laundy bag with wood pellets http://www.ruralking.com/wood-....html
this will make for a much larger lighter bag. i made one and took it apart, because it was to light but i can see it being really good for circuits in a group setting.

Awesome thanks for the info, I'll try to get these together this weekend. How much do you think they weigh?

How long has he been grappling? The best advice I can give is, stay relaxed on the mat, be aggressive, and don't try anything you learned last week.
#27
the one with sand is about 120 pounds and is a bitch to pick up unless you bearhug it. if you just grab it by the outer bag its real tough but great for the grip and if any of you bjj guys are gi grapplers, than they will appreciate how similar the sandbag will feel to grabbing the gi. just keep the nails short if you want to keep them.
good thing about using those inner sandbags is that you can adjust the weight, by adding them or taking them out.
one with pellets was about half that weight.

Spoolin,At my old facility we came up with a really cheap/ easy way to store our exercise balls that didn't take up floor space like those giant PVC racks.
Basically we built a rack out of PVC that mounted on the wall and was held up w/ guide wires. It kept the balls off the floor and was easy to get them up to and down from.
I looked kind of like this...
|________|_______|
Where the upright parts bolted into the wall and stuck out. Kind of like a giant towel rack. The swiss balls then just rested in the gap between the wall and the outer PVC frame and the whole thing was held up w/ wires.
The only pic I can find that sort of shows it is the middle pick one row up from the bottom on this page
http://portlandpace.com/facility.htmlIt worked really well and was cheap as **** to build

no worries broseph. If that explanation didn't make sense, let me know and I can see if I can dig up a picture or something of how we had it setup. It worked really well and was REALLY space efficient.

Is this going to be an open gym or are you just doing coached sessions?
