Whether you’re a football aficionado, a fan of sports or simply of pop culture, this weekend’s Super Bowl XLIV is a spectacle that draws a television crowd like little else. Part of that crowd will back the Indianapolis Colts, others will root for the New Orleans Saints and almost everyone will focus on the commercials. If the Super Bowl is the pinnacle of NFL competition then its sponsored breaks are the pinnacle in advertising. Audi will take part for the third year running.

We've got some exclusive stills from the spot and have seen it. Read more impressions after the jump.

Just looked at in on the Audi website. I was all excited about it until I saw that once again the enthusiast purist has not been taken into consideration

    No Manual at ALL
Much less a manual + AWD

    Boooooo =(

    I want to hide...

At the superbowl party I'm going to, yeah, I'll take the BMW.

    Though, have to say....

The "Green Police" is as pretentious as "The ultimate driving machine".

The VW commercial was better but both were better than the emerald nuts at sea world commercial.

I think that this is one of the worst Audi commercial ever. Seems like this commercial has a love / hate effect.

Horrible commercial!! GLOBAL WARMING/CLIMATE CHANGE HAS BEEN EXPOSED AS A HOAX/POSSIBLY THE BIGGEST SWINDLE EVER TO TAX ALL OF US FOR OUR CARBON EMISSIONS!!!! AUDI ONLY FURTHERS THE PROPAGANDA WITH THIS COMMERCIAL! EPIC FAILURE! BUT sweet car! ! hopefully one day they will come out with the diesel/electric hybrid and get 75+ mpg, but probably wont until we pay alot more for energy and the carbon police are in full force enforcing the carbon taxing and the increased prices of everything!!

Really... so we should be emitting toxins into the air we breath? Who cares if its warming, cooling or changing... lets just balance our damn chemical equations... and developing cleaner cars helps that...

Funny thing is, I thought Audi did a great job poking fun at the whole greenie movement in this ad. Not only was it smart but funny too. Audi was saying...hey eco-nazis we have a *diesel* that was awarded Green Car of the Year and it's great looking, fun to drive and much less pretentious than driving a Prius.

How does a parody of global warming believers advance their cause? Look at the NYT's critique...they're pissed.

Cheap Trick rules. Can't believe they whored themselves out for this commercial.. which sucked HARD. The punchbug commercial was half-decent, slightly better than I'd expected, given VW's recent marketing epic fails.

Parody or not, it validates their beliefs. But the hard core enviro-nazis are pissed because it shows what they want to accomplish but in a negative way. They dream of what is shown in that commercial as being reality but they know they have to get there in small steps. They don't want people thinking about what the end result of their policies would look like.

HATED IT. It was a terrible commercial except for the last few seconds. Too long & drawn out.
Audi wasted their money. They could have gotten to the point in 30 seconds and skipped all the BS.

  22. 02-08-2010 02:13 PM #22
I thought it was funny. Audi is on record that it thinks hybrids are inefficient and that TDIs are extremely practicle. So this is just reinforcing their view on the subject by somewhat mocking, and at the same time, paying some tribute to the green concept.

I thought it was funny. yes it really didn't show you the car and what it could do but it sure did poke fun at all the GREEN dorks.. lol

The so called enviro facists are not in favor of diesels, so the A3 TDI would have been a no-go. They prefer electric vehicles where the source of the 'lectricity is out of sight and out of mind, which are usually from some power plant that burns petrolium in a open fire pit a la Saddam style during his retreat from the souther part of Pan Iraq (Kuwait). Plus, they will be so flipped out with this ad that they won't bother with Audi anything.

The global warming deniers would think this ad exposes some hoax, but they wouldn't come close to a TDI, preferring to stay on the 2nd floor of their monster truck.

And doesn't the Green Police have some other heads to crack in the WB or homes to demolish?

"non-compliance with the Deposit Law on Beneverage Containers"

Yikes! Reminds me of a cheesy sci-fi book I read a while ago. It takes place on earth in the future. There was a scene where a group of young "hooligans" were walking around looking for trouble. One of them grabs a plastic bottle from a recycle can and puts it into a trash can. His buddies grab him and say something like "What the %$@*! are you doing! Misdemeaners and such are fine but that's a felony!"

Ugh...this commercial was weak at best. It didn't feel anything like a traditional Audi commercial and felt more like it was an ad for a VW. Yes, the A3 is the cheapest thing Audi has to offer, but they don't have to market it as such. All they did with this commercial was cheapen the brand image.

It's more fail that you can't get the TDI in a quattro.
Want: Audi MQB RS3 Sportback, S-Tronic (DSG) in the USA.
Want: Mk7 Golf Sportwagon with DSG, HID/LED's, TDI and AWD (With potentially an R-Kit)
Want: Mk7 Golf R 4 Door with DSG
Want: More Hatchbacks/Sportbacks/Wagons in the US.

Exactly! The real failure is not this ad...it's that we can't get a TDI A3 with Quattro and a 6-spd.

Be glad that Audi even paid any attention to the A3. This is the abandoned child Audi never really wanted. They just want to pump up the green hype because the A3 TDI was the car that won the award. If they want to push the A3, then AoA would be offering competitive leasing and promotion. This way, you will see A3's being advertised in places other than the sections of the paper where dealers try to dump CPO loaner cars.

Well you're half there. This was advertising. I'm told the plan to support it with the push on the TDI model.

btw, those with B-stone tires are also in the top 5 of most popular ads during the superbowl.

doucher comment award goes to U!

    sorry mate.

Audi bought the award. VAG had to show something, give some reason for why the A3 TDi lives. Otherwise, just give the award to the less expensive V-dub Golf diesel.
