I have to admit, I live maybe 20 minutes from there, so I'll wind up checking it out. If I do I'll take pics - so goofy, but I'm interested to see it in person.

That reminds me...I was driving up 19th through San Francisco once, and this huge pickup pulls next to me. Loaded in the back is an ATV, which has two gigantic, dead, bloody boars strapped to it. That's a jarring sight right in the middle of SF rush-hour traffic.

The picture on MSN maps sucks. Google isn't much better.
I just did a people search on him to find the address. Stalker stylez....

NICE! I'm surprised Google's image is 5+ years old.

Hmm, that still doesn't make much sense. I don't see the gated drive across the street anywhere.

Bing Maps shows the property during the construction phase. Along the street is an entrance that looks to be sloped downward into his property. This is probably the original entrance. The wood framed structure appears to be his garage without the bridge.

Go north a bit. The article says he has "other access" to the property. The structure with the Ferrari isn't part of the house but is a separate structure. Move up until you see some trees and a ravine to the left. You'll see the driveway on the right. I think they cut the trees, put up the wall and made the bridge to cross the ravine.

Methinks if homeboy has had this kind of construction going on for five years, people might have a slight reason to be pissed.

This guy has a regular garage on the other side of his property where he keeps his regular cars. That is one reason his neighbors are up in arms because his permit for the "sky" garage was obtained under false pretenses. He got the permit because he claimed that this would be the main garage and he needed access to avoid parking on the streets (street parking is highly restricted in the hills section of LA because of fire truck access issues during brush fires and earthquakes). This is what the neighborhood association are saying regarding setting "precedents". Basically, this is what he did (in order):
      1. Demolish an existing garage where he expanded his house
      2. Apply for permit for sky garage and bridge, claiming he needs the parking space
      3. Subsequently added more garage space on a different parcel of land that he owns adjacent to his house
      4. HOA can afford better lawyers
      5. ?
      6. Profit
Please note: I'm not siding with the HOA and the City... I'm just laying out the facts that seems to be missing from the discussion in this thread.

public pressure = neighbors and the Brentwood Homeowners Assn.

But public pressure shouldn't be able to change the zoning and construction laws of said area of already approved existing construction. I don't understand this.

article states the city building inspectors came multiple times during the build and had no problem with it. (i came multiple times looking at the article too, FYI)

      wtf? TMI.

legally, what he did was sneaky, but sounds like it's within the letter of the law.
At the time he applied for the permit, that was to be his only garage.
"Future plans" are irrelevant. Future plans for adjacent parcels are even more irrelevant.
I wonder what shady zoning loopholes you'd find if you looked into his neighbors... from experiences I've had in my area... hypocrisy abounds when it comes to people complaining about zoning.

Yep. I'm sure there are a few "schools" and "day care centers" and other places of business in that area on residential only zoned property.

if the problem is about the bridge being unsafe, then add a room or storage something under the bridge so now the bridge is physically connected tp the ground and is no longer classified as a bridge, but is now the roof of the "room" below.
If his project was approved by the city, then all of a sudden it isn't, how many other projects could the city have torn down, removed because people complained and the said the city made a incorrect judgement.
I would think the city would be all for it. If his property value goes up, tht means more tax dollars...right?
Personally, I don't think the bridge is a safety hazard. It allows the owner to pull into the garage/3rd floor slowly and in control. Could you image if it wasn't there, how fast he would have to drive to clear the gap and then stop in time before crashing through the glass wall?
Also, would it have been a problem if that was just a foot bridge for another street entrance? Because it involves imposing an inconveinance on someone, his neighbors are all over it. Would it make a difference to his neighbors if he drove something else...at least the 512BB has style, taste and class.

that's why it's so wrong. the city OK'd it during construction. now the neighbors are pissed and are just trying to be vindictive the only way they know how... whine and sue

If you scroll along that road, his house looks to be about half the size of some of the homes which are sitting on smaller lots than his. People need something better to bitch and moan about.

So I went by this house. Got out and started to take some pictures. I guess the owner noticed that I was out there and came out and asked if he could help me. I told him about this thread and that I was taking some pictures for it. He asked if I would like to see the inside. I said sure. He told me about the issues he was having and that the bridge was there to STAY. The house is still in construction.
      on with the pics
