Well after a short hiatus from VW's the bug has bitten and I'm back.
I picked this up over the weekend. The plan is to make it a boosted daily.
Stay tuned...

A Rabbit is not to be wasted on the tentative or weak. Only the worthy are invited, and then only at your own risk. If you have even a modicum of hesitation, DO NOT buy one of these cars. Instead, leave it for a worthy soul who has already matriculated to the sublime ecstasy of what those in the know refer to as a "MK1"

Added engine pick. Hopefully sometime this week I'll go out and try and jump the fuel pump relay and see if she starts.
#13
None at all. Work has been keeping me busy, last 2 weeks been in Boston. Hopefully I'll get out there soon and try to get her started. I've been on the lookout for a Mk3 parts car to drop an ABA into it.

looks like a good car to start with
how's the body under that new paint?
#17
The paint was a quick respray by the PO. Looks good from 20ft away buy will def need some body work, but nothing crazy. It'll do for now while I work on the engine.

Finally got to spend some time outside on the car today. The new block is already in the garage and MS is on order. So I started disconnecting everything and was almost ready to drop the block but had to bring the kids in for dinner.
Hopefully this one will be out by the end of the week.![]()

OK had to call it a night all mounts disconnected. Did a final check before dropping it and I forgot the speedo cable. Wouldn't you know the screw wouldn't budge. Oh well I sprayed half a can of PB Blast on it I'll see if I can get it off tomorrow.

good progress so far.![]()

Mounted the tranny to the block tonight.
Painted the mount brackets.
Decided the original intake is the way to go because the 16v throttle body won't work in the pass side. Was going to port match the intake then I realized it was 11:30.
Tomorrow's project

OK I got to spend some time in the garage last night and made some progress.
The manifold has been ported to match the 16v throttle body. I was also able to get the engine in the bay before calling it a night. I'm expecting my MS to come in this week so that will be next to install.
This was last night had to call it quits at 11:30 bec I had to get up for work at 5.![]()

dang!! Great progress fast

I finally got my manifold today. I had to widen the hole on the turbo a bit but everything is bolted up. Hopefully I'll get out there tomorrow and fit it to the block and clock the turbo. Looks like I'm going to have figure something for the wastegate, it looks a little tight.

I ended up having to take everything apart to get it to fit but it's in. Good thing I had to tear it down because I found packing peanuts stuck in the manifold.
Checking the intake manifold. I have to cut down the injector bracket for it to fit, but that will be fixed tomorrow.
