I made this picture at Audi Sport Ingolstadt (1993 or 1994). This Audi 80 is probably a DTM prototype, but has never been used? Who can tell ...
What about this, it is another prototype for the same car, or ...?

I wonder what engine that the 80 would've used-2.5 straight four like the Merc 190 Evo or a 2.5 V6? Audi had both types of engines that they could've made such a stock block engine from (1.8 T four) and then-new V6s.

Any chance of re-opening the other thread (linked) ?
Would have been great having some more info.

Interesting.
Could this be one of the inline-4 engined 80's with the Audi V8 head?
Def. gonna track this one, also would be nice if the other thread in the link would be fixed...

I don't think so. Remember there has been two Audis running and homologated.
The Audi 80 quattro with a 2.0L 16V engine / V8 head in 1993.
The Audi 80 competition with a "complete" 2.0L 16V.
The one in the picture above is a prototype only. From what I know it was supposed to feature a 2.5L engine with lots of rpm.

Not sure what's up with that first thread. Checking to see if it can be revived.

Thanks Anthony. BTW guys, I got some more photos of that car. It was on display in July at the Audi Forum Neckarsulm. It may still be, or perhaps at Audi Forum Ingolstadt with the new DTM display there. Anyone going to Neckarsulm or Ingolstadt who can confirm?

Thanks a LOT guys!
The original thread was always of great interest, and having the newer pics of the DTM prototype in full restoration is simply stunning. Personally I never got around to the details of the engine in these, as the second prototype had only been delivered as a rolling chassis (from what I know).
