Thread: 2000 audi a6 4.2L-v8 transmission problem

  1. 02-11-2010 11:33 PM #1
i have a 2000 audi a6 that drove perfectly until yesterday when I got off the highway and stopped at the first set of lights.
after lights turned green I tryed to accelerate and all it did is the engine reved up but the vehicle didnt move (very slowly).
code p0730 inccorect gear ratio came up as a code.
Reverse gear works perfectly only D is affected.
any one know of any issue I may look into??
    thanks

    check fluid level

use VAGCOM to make sure the sifter position matches the indicator on the dash AND that they match what the transmission says which gear it's in

put the shifter in "2" and see if it drives any better

is it in limp mode? are *ALL* the gear positions on the instrument cluster highlighted?

Gear clusters highlighted means its got a code and may be in failsafe.

But not moving in forward ranges isnt' failsafe. If your fluid is full you probably need major trans work.
Auto trans fluid change or flush will not make a trans fail. Stop spreading the wives tale/urban myth.

I would simplify that to say...

take it to get the fluid level checked..

Note: to do the fluid level correctly the "shop" will have to have it cold, because driving the car takes the trans temp OVER the temp that is required to check the trans fluid level.

I suppose having it serviced would give them an opporitunity to inspect inside the pan.
