I'm the same way I have a dedicated group of knives that I use for the outdoors. I call them my go to blades. The sickness for me is I buy back ups for them and then backups for them as well.

Actualyl some of my tops knives are my best performers. I have a assorted bag of go to toys. The fun for me is to abuse them and then bring them back. I've been experimenting with different coatings, grips, patinas, reprofiling, strops etc...

I'll def do a review of the spartan I really like that they use all us made materials and are a veteran owned company. I'll also take some updates pics of my collection. I have a couple of autos that I've been tinkering with.

O patinas, ha, I've done my share of experimentation with patinas as well. Gunblue+mustard seem to bring out the best patterns for me. Tried and true method of sticking it in a potato is great too.

I've been carrying my full size CQC15 serrated ever since I got it a few days ago. From the data on the Emerson page, the blade is only 0.3 inches longer than the Mini15, but the larger handles and the wider blade definitely makes it a larger knife. It's a 2007 model, the first year that the 15 was introduced, and numbered 0260. Dual titanium liners, bought it used, but it looks NIB to me.

It was $160 including the sheath. He was not about to let me walk away with a less then perfect edge (convex saber grind FYI) so you'd certainly be very happy with one of his knives.

That Core Knife looks great - looks like a beautiful take on a modern/retro design. The kind of knife I can see someone using in a post-apocalyptic setting. Galloping around on your trusty steed with your laser rifle, and boot knife...

Yeah, it's definitely a fantastic knife well worth the money.

If I was spending that kind of money on a folder, it would be the Rat-1 folder.

What EK20 said. S&W make decent guns. Don't waste your money on their knives. There are PLENTY of better options out there for the money. Even 50% off.

any opinions on Gerber's auto knives?

I can pick one these up for about 120 directly from Gerber... worth it in terms of quality and durability?

I definitely wouldn't spend that kind of money for a Gerber. I don't really look into good folders since I only carry fixed blades, but I think you can get Benchmades for about that kind of money.

I have this exact knife. Its a great knife! The only negative thing I have about it is the weight. Its heavy. And will eventually rub a hole in your pocket against the clip.

Nice is an understatement. This thing is one of my grails. I can't exactly explain now nice this thing is. Simplistic, functional, practical and just melts into my hand. I can't say enough good things about this knife. If you aren't familiar with Daniel Winkler's stuff... then I'm just sorry.

Regarding Winkler, I am only familiar with his axes, but not his knives.

the same work that goes into his axes and tomahawks also go into his knives.

Found this behemoth going through my gear earlier.

Tops Pry-Knife...why is it a pry-knife you say?

This goes in the BOB, and maybe if I do this CERTS training here shortly, with any emergency gear.

Figured i'd put this up before they get destroyed/lost over the next few months. Been carrying variations of the Sog of years, but decided to give the Benchmade a shot as well. Benchmade will be primary duty carry and sog will be a trusted backup. I will very much miss the assisted open with the Sog, but the Benchmade is weighted well enough to flick open without too much trouble.

Benchmade 553 Tanto Griptilian / SOG Trident.
