I picked up one these at smokey mountain knife works a month ago, zero tolerance 0301, very solid well built knife, extremely sharp out of the box, love it...

How did you like Smoky Mountain Knifeworks, I am close to them and visit pretty often, I posted a link to there website on one of the previous knife threads.

I loved it, was worth the trip more so just to see the great country side, I also stopped by the coleman outlet and got me a nice tent for this years racing season etc. The people that work at smokey mountain knifeworks are awsome, they lay everything out for you and give you great information about the product, was a fun experience, the story of how that company started is amazing.
Cheers, Scott

Here's my David Farmer custom I just got in a trade. I just sharpened it & it's like a scalpel. I'm having a new coyote brown kydex sheath made for it to replace the leather one.

Wait, so they won't sell you this knife if you're not in or have been in the military?
I am sorry, but that strikes me as a bit silly. What is there about this knife that makes them need to keep it out of the hands of mere civillians?

I purchased a Nimravus for a buddy of mine who was deploying - couldn't help but think it was a very thin blade...how strong do you think it is? It just felt a little brittle...and I'm not a fan of aluminum handles. I do love Benchmades though - let me know what you think of it.

It is silly, but they have the rc-3MIL for le/mil only. You need to purchase it through your le email or .mil email address. The rc-3mil I purchased is for my brother & I wanted to surprise him before he re-deploys.

A DD-214 isn't going to get you a knife with a Federal Agency logo on it... that's what your link is showing.

The RC-3MIL was previously available to law enforcement and military only. During that time it became the official knife of numerous law enforcement groups and special teams. It is now available to the general public through our dealer / distributor network.

True, but it will get you a generic RC-3MIL, without a military unit insignia. I wanted the mil version because of the different handles, sharpened pommel & the sheath system. That link talks about federal agency's, & current active military.

I really like it. Yes it's a little thin but I think it'll hold up alright. I plan on taking it to Afghanistan as soon as I get orders. And I plan on ditching the aluminum handle and wrapping it with 550 cord. We'll see how that feels. All in all, no complaints. My hands aren't real big so I feel it fits me pretty well. I think it's awesome. Plus it was free to me so that makes it all the better.

After a little more research, anyone can buy the RC-3MIL. It's even listed on knifecenter. Apparently, you can get military or LEO discounts, which is cool, and if you want to order one of the RC-3MIL models with a specific logo engraved on it, you have to be a member of that agency, which is also fine.
When I thought they just plain wouldn't sell the knife to a "civilian" I was annoyed, but if it's just discounts and such, it's no big deal.

Good to know I love the RC-3 line, but just wanted the features of the RC-3MIL. In kinda didn't seem fair either that current active personel could get the knife, but not veterans? Knowing this would have saved me some aggravation.

I really like the handle slabs on the Izula. It must give a different dynamic of control over a smaller knife like that. Were the slabs worth the extra money over, say, a paracord-wrapped version?

I felt so, paracord imo always comes lose, and this gives my edc a very solid feel for such a small blade.
