So, I've had this new lap top running Windows 7 for a week and I can't print coz I've got something stuck in the print queue.

I've tried deleting it to no avail. Printer is stuck off-line.

I've tried Google heaps of times. It's a common problem, there are thousands of solutions, none of them seem to work.

Anyone got a sure-fire way of uninstalling my printer? It's a brother HL2140, but given the variety of people that have this same problem, it's a Windows bug, not a printer one.

And every time someone responds in this thread by saying "Buy a Mac" you'll get ten pics of Goober's nose in the Apple thread.

As helpful as always. I've tried that over the space of a few days now. The printer and the computer have had plenty of time to cool down. As soon as I fire them up again, problem re-emerges.

Can you delete the printer, and therefore the printer queue, and then reinstall it?

Sounds like another 'it just works' moment!

Seriously - if you bought windows, or it came with your laptop, call Microsoft Australia support, or Sony or whoever made your laptop. Or even Brother.

Things being stuck in print queues is something that has been **** in windows since the dawn of time. Uninstalling the printer is the right way to fix it I think.

Or google for the name of the directory of temp files that are the actual print queue, and nuke them?

Oh look - my own idea has been thought of already, and by the looks, answered well

    GOTO's are deprecated.

    Please resubmit using CASE

Matt. If you resolve the issues with the printer, the queue will clear. Perhaps you should describe those issues and window's complaints about it.

It seems I would have been wrong

Yianni, did you end up buying an SSD in honkers? I'm speccing a new system to build up after many years of laptops and have decided to go with an Intel X25-M 80GB SSD, bout $400. Anyone else bought one yet?

It does seem the darling of the consumer SSD's. I was going to get a cheaper Corsair which had double the write speed of the Intel but found some horror stories.

Good to hear it worked Matt. But if it keeps happening, then as already mentioned, something else (i.e. the root cause haha) will need to be sorted.

yeah lots of rich people up here, as I'm sure you know. And no ang moh's at a Lo Hei dinner!

Though the rental returns on properties are good here, or at least have been - If you spent the price of a Ferrari on a decent apartment and rented it out, the rental income would almost cover the finance payments of a Ferrari

yeah of course there are lots of rich people in Sg, but the number of Lambo surprised me. Not all rich people buy Lambos, which means this represents a perxentage of rich people! Hey if property Market so good there, why aren't you investing!

I know you were talking bout SSD's in the apple thread, but as this is a PC thought I'd link it here http://www.techpowerup.com/116....html

Ripping a Blu-Ray takes 2-3 hours on a good PC. It takes a mere 0.9 seconds on this one.

I observe a number of Mac owners always feel this need to yell from a mountain top about a LCD screen, some chips, a mouse and pretty colours.

    Its kinda cute.

back o/t should I get Windows 7 i can get a free upgrade with my Toshie laptop. Vista has been rock solid so I think I might just stick with that knowing my luck I will screw it up. Given it is for wifey to use and she is happy might leave it as is, given she just uses it for email and web etc.
It's just got a slightly mobile rear end on it

  33. 03-04-2010 04:45 PM #33
Given you've said Vista has been rock solid for you and its intended use, then I'm a firm believer of 'if it ain't broke...' But get the free upgrade anyway, so you have it for when the inevitable occurs
