I was just telling a friend that I want to go to a Rallye race soon. I will look into this today!

It looks like the ADAC Rallye Deutschland is this August... A colleague of mine and I are talking about going. Neither of us have ever been to a rally - how's this thing supposed to work? It looks like the Gold Pass is 90 Euro for all three days. Apparently you get access to the Super Stages in the city of Trier, service areas and so on. How do they regulate all the other stages out in the countryside? How the hell do you know where to go?I really want to figure out how this whole thing works. We'd be making a pretty long drive and I'd hate to get down there and have no idea what to do!

if you went you would have to pick out a good spot to stand at. it will basically be boring as hell until a car comes down your side of the track. once it passes then its back to boredom!!!. but dont stand to close to the course!, sometimes the drivers roll and peices hit bystandards.

I kinda figured as much... so, how do you know where to go? Do they publish maps or something?

A woman was killed at a race last month. She was standing in an unauthorized place and the car crashed and killed her!

ghost-gti hit it right on. I went to one a few years ago. Standing in the cold waiting for ever, then vrrrrrrr FLASH! a car passes, wait 10-15 minutes and repeat. It's more entertaining to watch on TV, but still an experience in itself. The drivers really are skilled.

i will be there this year as an adac-assistant in the rallye-servicepark![]()

Care to provide any inside info or tips to those that have never attended a WRC (or any rally for that matter)?

Take a look at the course map, decide what kind of action you want to see, and go there. For me a good spot was about 50 meters before a sharp turn--they came in fast, but slowed down enough for a good photo. Stand too close to a turn and risk being hit. Another good spot was behind a fence in a village that has come crazy turns. The challenge there is finding an owner that doesn't mind you standing in his yard.

So is it worth the 5 hour drive, tracking down a hotel, and so on?I'm getting mixed reviews here.

I would say yes, it's good to experience. The top pass is cool getting to see all areas. Most people who get killed there are retards. You have a line to stand behind. If you go past for cool pics or whatever its at your own risk. I usually bring one of those folding chairs that has the shoulder bag. Everyone has one. Get the one colored as a US flag so you blend in...Bring euro for all the imbiss stands.
I have something for sale, can you guess how much & where I am?

Interesting... I guess 90 Euro and 5 hours of driving isn't too much to waste.

So... anyone going this weekend?
My colleague and I were originally taking the families down to Trier, letting the wives and babies do their thing and then go see the racing. Well, he's backing out on me...
Should I buy his ticket for my wife and then take the three month olds around the countryside looking for rally cars???![]()
Is Trier itself going to be super crowded? We have a hotel room lined up in town, so that's not a big deal...

Well, this fell through two years ago...
I'm giving this another shot. Anyone going this year? We're going to be in the area so I thought we'd check it out on the Friday.
