I mentioned Taylor Mays way back in this thread. Sure, he can't tackle, but he can hit. I'm willing to give Singletary time to work with him and see how he pans out.

actually i was in the car last night listening to it on nfl radio and they said something that mays was one of the all time leaders in tackles at usc

he needs to be coached up - he has the athletic ability to be a top 10 pick he just has poor fundamentals

    great pick up at 49
    a terrible pick at 13/17

Sorry guys im just crapping my pants right now lol.

I was ready to give up on this team pre draft and now i think i have found a new love. If they can coach halfway as well as they have drafted this will be a scary season.

well thats just it - i was never impressed with what USC did on the field in terms of plays - it was not hard to out coach Carroll but when you have an NFL caliber team at the college level - you become very difficult to beat

he was a .500 coach in the NFL before USC so i guess the truth will come out
and the NFC West is weak so it might be the perfect storm for him to succeed

One of the two of us are taking the division this year. I was leaning towards you guys but now im kind of leaning back towards seattle. I think its really going to come down to our defense and health.

Your defense still makes ours look like a cheer squad. But with trufant back healthy and the addition of thomas in our secondary i think its really going to come down to our D line to apply pressure.

That being said if seattle dosnt address the d-line i dont see us being able to beat you guys in the division even with these additions.

I think that is why Sing wanted him. The guy hits like a mack truck, but just needs some help with wrap up tackling. Sing has wanted an intimidating defense all along and this is one more player that will make people think about running in his area.

should see if you can find any of his highschool highlights on youtube. I watched him lay 2 people out cold in 1 game when he was in HS..not something you expect to see from a teenager.

Umm. Yeah. Not so much. The 49ers are only getting better. We'll take the division. SF, Arizona, Seattle, St. Louis. In that order.

What a fun, sexy time for you.

i dont know about arizona being 2nd - they are garbage without warner

and they let some good players go without really replacing them
Dansby and Boldin are gone with Warner and replaced with.......

Seattle still has a weak defense - granted rookies can come in and make a huge difference but they are not on the 9ers level - and we all know this 9ers defense has been in the works for the past 5 years or so

Seattle will turn things around - i just dont see them competing next year

IF Alex Smith finally "gets it" this year and the oline is worth anything - then the defense should be a top 10 defense and the 9ers should be able to win 10-12 games

In a tougher conference id say they are 9-10 wins but they should sweep the west

Nope. He changed his mind and signed with the Titans.

    They'll still have Dixon though.

    well that sucks

cant blame him though - Titans got rid of White and could use a battering ram type of back

the 9ers have Gore, Coffee, Robinson, and now Dixon - i was beginning to wonder who they would keep

I'd imagine that Dixon will move up to number 3, or even 2, in fairly short order.

    the new running back
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...lated

gotta admit - i knew very little of anthony dixon and Miss St but remembered former Florida OC Dan Mullen is their HC now and watching videos - it looks like Dixon is used to running out of shotgun formations that Urban Meyer uses

A power back used to running out of shotgun seems to fit the bill - probably why they wanted Blount as well - Big power back who runs out of shotgun formation

I think the 9ers made it very clear they want to be a power running team but they are going to cater it to Alex Smith's strength of being in shotgun

Maybe Raye is smarter than he is letting on - lets hope so

almost makes you wonder if the 9ers would have pulled the trigger on Tebow had he fallen into the 3rd/4th rounds?

I'm still not sure how they can cater to both the Smith spread offense from shotgun and a power running game where Gore likes to run behind a FB. I think we'll see Smith under center plenty this year. If the o-line can give him some time, he'll be ok back there.

Then when they DO decide to run shotgun/spread, it will be anyone's guess whether or not Dixon is going to ram it down your throat, or if Smith is going to come out passing.

Well they will have to mix it up.

They will run with Smith under center and hopefully play action out of these same formations to keep the defense honest.

But they also need to be able to run out of shotgun (think the pistol in college - youtube nevada)

Right now I have an idea of what they could do (and its a lot) but it will require Smith to be good under center and Gore to be good at running out of the spread

if they can do both well they can cause problems with teams just because of their packages

Vernon Davis is a WR in a TE's body - put him in the slot and now any defense will have some difficulty with it

Bring everyone into a 2 TE 1 back set and the defense thinks run - fake it and throw it to a wide open crabapple

    and so on

they have some nice weapons on this team - hopefully it all comes together this year
